An observation today
I had some things to pick up at a local Farm Supply store, plenty of activity with shoppers, employees stocking shelves and so on. I love shopping there, all sorts of farm supplies, heavy duty hardware and such a wide varity of things.
I was finishing a phone call and doing some paperwork before I went in observing the customers coming and going.
It struck me that every customer I saw, returned the flatbed and other push carts to the inside of the store, after loading up the supplies they purchased. Unlike other stores where customers leave carts where they park.
Thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that the bulk of the customers are hard-working responsible country folks that just would not even think of leaving the carts and flatbeds outside.
Kind of made me proud of them

They Just don't care about others, carts rolling into vehicles, wind blowing them around the lots. When you see people returning carts, and pushing them into the corralls, you think what a nice person.

I've got a few nice little dents in the side of my TV because of some of the lazy customers that like to just push their cart away and let it roll wherever! Ozz, I think I know of the Farm Supply store you are frequenting and they are one of the best in the way of variety of all possible high quality goods. I hit them at least two or three times a week just to see if they have anything new!

Where we shop at ANY store we at least corral our carts. If it's a flat bed or one of those vertical rail carts for doors and the like, we'll corral those, too only if to save someone a few steps in finding one.
We feel like we are a rarity, but both DW and I think this is a good idea. We also enjoy parking out in the North 40 because we hate the fights when we park and then try to leave. Sometimes it can take a long time just to get out of the space because anxious drivers wanna take our spot, then we get slowed down by the multitudes coming out of the store who don't care what traffic is waiting.
Forget it, we park far (rain or shine, mostly shine), think walking is good and will corral our carts. I've had to catch too many others' runaway carts to think I'm gonna be that inconsiderate and lazy. I'd like to think nothing would be different for us if we lived where it rained, or snowed or had hurricanes and tornados. All we ever get are earthquakes but we haven't been near carts or parking lots when they have happened, yet.

Seems to me, Ozz, what you describe used to be the norm everywhere...sort of like manners...slipping away.

I like what I see at the local Costco. Most people do walk the carts to the corral even in these cold temperatures.

You know I like the idea that ALDI grocery has! All of their carts are chained together with a device on them that if you put a quarter in it you get a cart. When you get done with the cart, return it to the other carts, you put the chain device back in the slot, it locks it to the others and you get your quarter back. Nice idea and you never see carts in the lot at all!

If you do see a cart in ALDIs lot, someone will use it and return it to get that quarter, don't ask me how I know.

I've seen this used elsewhere (can't remember where) and it seemed to work well. DW and I always bring our cart to the "corral". Just seems like the right thing to do. The people that never return carts are probably the same ones that flick their lit cigarettes out the window making it "someone else's problem"

I think it is only common sense and good manners to return that cart to the corral.
A couple years ago - we sustained $1100 damage to the TV when a wind blown cart traveled the whole length of a WalMart lot and T-boned the drivers side door. Funny thing - I had parked at the furthest end of the lot to avoid doors being opened into me - fat lot of good that did! The cart just reached maximum velocity before impact! Caved in the door but good!
Anyway - the carts we use always get stowed properly after use.

Some folks must just be to busy to put the carts back or corral them. They certainly can not be that lazy, can they

know its a Winter Texan and not a local
