It has been a tough week.

It was 48 years ago when he moved his family three doors down the street. His name was Jim and he had five kids. Two of the boys were my age, 13 years old and they had a “baby” sister 10 years old. She had a crush on me and she did not care who knew. It was downright embarrassing.
My step father had no interest in the outdoors or camping so Jim would invite me to go hunting and fishing from time to time when he would take his boys out.
Jim’s little girl turned 18 and I married her. Jim changed from my very good friend to my father-in-law.
Jim got Dementia and on September 14, 2009 we put Jim into a nursing home. 16 days ago Jim aspirated and developed pneumonia. He was transferred to the local hospital. Three days ago it was obvious Jim was getting worse and not going to make it. The doctor suggested we put Jim on a morphine drip to make him comfortable and ease his passing. The family agreed and my friend, and father-in-law, James Rollings passed away today at 12:10 PM. Prayers for the family are most welcome.

Prayers for the family are definitely there. Remember the good time as you addressed and know he is at peace, hunting and fishing to his hearts content. So sorry for your lose.
God Bless.

It's never easy to loose a relative especially when that relative has been a long time friend also. Just remember the good times you spent with Jim and know that he is now at peace without any pain or confusion. You,your family, and James' family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Wow, what a great way to experience the father-in-law/son-in-law relationship. So many are alien experiences. To know and love that deeply intensifies the pain of separation. That collage of warm memories will, in time relieve the pain and sadness. C. S. Lewis wrote about the loss of his wife and the terrible pain. She told him that the pain was the other side of a magnificent relationship. The strength of the bond of friendship both brings the hurt and then heals it.

John and Roxanne,
We are sorry to learn of your loss. Even knowing that they are out of pain and in a much better place does not take all the pain away. Time will help. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I understand the loss of a father-in-law who is also a friend. It's not easy. He will live on in your memories and your telling of stories of the good times. Our prayers are with you.
