Air Filter for furnace.
I have looked all over and cannot find the air filter for the furnace. I do not have an owners manual for it.

Les,
As Rich already said there is no filter. A few folks have added one but the furnace folks or Keystone do not recommend a filter.

We installed one under the stairs, which I was told was the return air supply opening. In fact, I need to change it out....Thanks for reminding me......

I did too, I recommend it. The fan is plenty strong to overcome the very slight restriction a filter gives.

Well.......that would explain why I couldn't find it. I think my return air is in the kitchen area under a cabinet. I think I will look into putting a filter in. We camp in a lot of dusty areas.

Do you really need the return air under the stairs? Its not like the basement is air tight.

Efficiency; you want to draw the warm air back in for reheat, not cold air from outside.

Summer months-- I remove the filters and block off this area so I am not trying to cool the basement.

Sheet-rock screws, and it is about the lenght to cover the hatch up top.

HamRad says filter is not recommended...I was thinking about installing a filter as shown in this thread, but I was not sure a 12v motor system would be able to handle the airflow restriction. HamRad, did you get any specific reason not to install the filter? With all the things that can go wrong, I don't want to add to those things!

Michael and Camilla, I think HamRad was told they did not recommend it, but he was not given (I believe) reasons.
I have been doing HVAC and repair work for 35 years, I was a Machinist in the Navy working on Nukes and Diesel boats, and have 6 years of schooling in the trades. Based on my training, and experience, my 'take' on Keystone's recommendation is based on their warranty and legal requirements, they stated it was not recommended.
Furnace builders design a system, roll it out, then the 'Bean Counters' and Lawyers take a look at it, make design changes and suggestions, having nothing to do with the operation of the unit, and after that, if the system works, they roll it out.
The blower is a dual purpose blower, it is quite capable of handling the airflow. The Lawyers, 'Bean Counters', warranty department and engineers know people generally do not change filters, and systems fail. Therefore they don't endorse filters.
JMHO, but an informed one. I like clean air, filtered. But you must change the filter for proper operation.
