air pressure?

HOW MUCH AIR IS EVERYONE RUNNING IN THEIR AIR BAGS? I STARTED OUT ON A RECENT TRIP WITH 40 PSI IN MY AIRLIFT BAGS. BOUT JARRED US OUT OF OUR SEATS. FINALLY SETTLED IN ON 22 PSI FOR BEST RIDE. DOES THIS SOUND ABOUT RIGHT?

I carry 50 psi in mine as well as in my TrailerSaver hitch. Ride is like a truck.

The bags will increase pressure by loading the trailer onto the TV along with any heat that might be absorbed from under the truck, especially on the side nearest the exhaust system. I start with about 20# cold. Unless you have on board gauges, the bags should be checked under load to determine what pressure is in them. Orv says 50#, mine is somewhere about 40# when loaded. Firestone Air Bags have a max of 100# and I think this to be loaded.

I go with 15 which is just enough to raise the truck off the over load springs and 0 empty.

I run 5# empty and put in 30# before I hook up which takes it up to around 45# with the trailer on it.

Don't have airbags on this truck but on the previous two trucks I had the Firestone bags. I used just enough pressure to make the truck ride level when towing. If I recall, that was about 45# (before hitching). When hitched it goes up a bit. I also would sometimes adjust the pressure up or down on the fly on roads that were rough or whatever. It helps smooth the ride. In all cases, ours rode better with the bags inflated when towing.

When solo I ran zero pounds in the bags. The manual says keep 5 pounds in them so they are not damaged if the suspension is bottomed out. However, on these trucks I don't think I could possibly bottom the rear suspension when not heavily loaded and the ride was better at zero than at five.

I'd suggest you hitch up the rig while on level ground, get out your level, then air the bags until the truck bedrails are level. When you unhitch, note the pressure in the bags unhitched so you know where to return them when ready to hitch up again.
