Does anyone own a 3400 RL?
We are considering full timing and are looking at a 3400RL. Anyone have one? If so, any specific likes/dislikes?

Welcome to the forum Mayhan!
Does anybody have a 3400RL?? Only the #1 seller in the Montana Line! so I think you will find a few of us have them!
We love ours.
If you are looking at full timing - also look at the Montana Big Sky 340RLQ. Same floor plan but a few more ammenities for a full timer.

We might be just slightly prejudiced, but think the 3400 makes the best use of available space of all the Montanas, especially the placement of the counter where the sinks are located. In many Montanas, that space is empty and wasted.
One addition to Brad's note...the BS 340RLQ does have more amenities...and a considerably higher price tag.

Thanks so much for the info. We did actually look at the Big Sky but feel we don't need all the fancy stuff. It's a matter of deciding which rig will be best because we are comparing 2...the Montana and a Jayco.

We did notice that big price difference, especially here in Canada. We're actually thinking of maybe even purchasing across the line because if we full time, we'll be in the US for the winter anyway. have heard great things about places to stay when the weather here is cold!

We have the 3400..We are long timers..It is a very large camper with plenty of storage space and plenty of counter space. If you are going to full time you may want to take another look at the Big Sky with Full timing in mind. EX:Big Fridge and some higher quality stuff like carpet pad and higher quality carpet.

Just purchased a 3400RL last month and plan to be full-time by Nov 07. We decided on the unit because of good use of space, king size bed, counter space in the kitchen(plenty of room for a toaster oven) and LOTS of closet space. We plan on putting a small(3.5cubicfoot) freezer in the washer dryer closet to help with the small refrigerator issue! I am sure you would not be dissapointed in the unit. Teresa

We have been fulltiming for almost one full year on July 20th in our 3400. We love it. Another issue with the BS is the extra weight. It would put us over our limits. We are close with our GMC 2500HD D/A now. We have to constantly watch the CAT scale readouts.

Hanna, Welcome and yes we are very happy full timing in our 3400. Good luck and stick around as the forum will become very addicting. Many very intellegent people here to answer any question you may have. One thing though, make sure your tow vehical is big enough to handle what ever model your heart leads you to.

We have the 3400RL and absolutely love it!! As Cat320 said, it makes the best use of available space.
We are full timers and have no problems with our unit. there is plenty of room for movement or getting away from each otheer if you want.
You won't be disappointed

We have been fulltimers since March 2003. We started with a 2003 3295RK and liked that model a lot. We traded last August for the 2007 3400RL and really like it a lot, too. I think any of the Montana models can and are being used for fulltiming and/or longtiming by numerous people in this forum. We feel the 3400RL is an excellent floorplan.
I'd suggest you spend some time in it before buying. Sit in each room and visualize all the activities you'd do in that room. And even play act it out to see how it works. Include things like two people wanting in the kitchen at the same time, etc. Look for the negatives as well as the positives. Be aware there will be negatives regardless of floorplan. The more informed you are, the fewer surprises after the purchase.
Good luck.

We will give you our vote for the 3400. We lived in ours for 9 months when we first purchased it (2004-05), then we spent all last summer in it along with several rallys. We will be full timing as of 8/15-20 this year. We are very confident we can make it in this floor plan. We love ours!!!!
Happy trails.......................

Thank you all so much for your advice. We're really learning a lot and checking out your websites with pictures. When we looked a few weeks ago, the salespeople also suggested that we spend time in the trailers with a deck of cards or a book or whatever, just to get the feel of it and we intend to do that.

You might also want to imagine how you would use the cabinets/storage areas to determine if your stuff will fit. Take a tape measure with you and the measurements of any large/odd shaped item to see if that item will fit. I worried and stressed every day ours was on order that our stuff wasn't going to fit. Not only did it all fit, we actually had some empty space! Not anymore ... but we did for a little while when we first moved in
Something else to keep in mind ... if you don't like the furniture or how it's arranged or the bedspread or the window treatment ... change it! You'll be amazed at how many different decorating/storage things you can do in a Montana.
Have fun!

Thanks for the advice Vicki. I enjoyed going through some of your postcards and pictures last night. Some beautiful photography! We're kind of starting to get excited about this whole idea altho it's still not 100% certain. I have aged parents here that are rapidly declining (at least dad is). But we definitely have to get rid of 36 years worth of accumulated stuff. We lived in our 26 ft. 5th (no slides) for 4 months last year and 2 months the year before so we're used to close quarters. The Montana we looked at is huge in comparison. Do you guys have any visions of going to Alaska? We did 2 years ago and loved it. Want to go back and try work camping.

We have a 3400 and love it. We have been full timing/living in it since we got it in may 06. I have made a few changes/improvements as have most of us who spend any time in any type rig. Just check out the improvements thread and you will see. I think you will be very happy with the 3400 RL but i do believe i'm a little biased. Good luck

We moved up from a 3295RK to the 3400RL. We like the location of the kitchen better, but lost some cabinet space. So you may want to look at both of them. When you walk into the right trailer you will know by how it feels. That was the way we chose ours. We looked for over 2 years.
