2006 v 2007 v 2007 3400 RL weights

Just checking something on on all these weight changes. I have a 2007 3400RL. It was built Jul 17, 2006. My weights on my "2007" sticker read 11,900 UVW, 13,975 GVWR. This gives me a 2,075 CC.

The 2007 weights for the 3400 listed on the website now are 11,800 UVW and a WHOPPING 3,940 CC. Can someone please explain that to me??? That would make for a GVWR of 15,740#...

Here's the fun part... Assuming that these figures are correct, and your pin weight should range between 15%-25% of the 5ver weight. That means that fully loaded, the pin weight could be up to 3,935 # (25% of 15,740).

What is the reason why the CC/GVWR increased so dramatically??? Are they now putting 7000# axles on the 3400 Montana (I know they are putting them on the Big Sky)? What gives? Is this a misprint?

This is almost a 200% increase in CC. I know they do running changes throughout the year, but this change is quite notable. Did I miss something???

Note: Just for clarification, this is NOT a Big Sky listing, just a regular 2007 Montana 3400RL.

I have read the Keystone site weight specs for previous model years and they are not logical. I think the RV industry is always juggling the figures to stay within the specs of the most popular TVs.

With Ford's new F450 raising the bar, we are going to see a lot of higher new numbers.

I have given up trying to figure out the way any RV maker comes up with its numbers. Seems to me we need to weigh the rig empty (or nearly empty), obtain GVWR, compare the two...and go from there.

Well I can see a minor change on way or the other, but a jump from 2075 to 3940 should raise eyebrows. Actually that 2075 is listed as lower as it does not include 60# of propane or any water in the fresh water tank.

Ye gads..I just looked at those numbers..Without changing anything my late 06 3400 went from 13975 GVWR to 15785 GVWR and my pin weight increased by 25 lbs.. this is a good thing???? Helen can load another 1810lbs of craft stuff into this thing..Keystone is always improving the product. We needed more CC and they gave it to us. They do listen to the consumer.

I heard awhile back that Keystone might be going to 6,500 lb axles on the Montana. I wonder if this has happened and might explain where the larger numbers are coming from....

According to the brochure on the 2007 models the 3400RL weighs in at 11650 lbs. Then add on 200 lbs for the hy-gloss and whatever else for the most popular options and you get the (UVW) weight. A suggestion for Keystone would be to weight all the trailers as they come off the assembly line and put that weight sheet in the unit. That way you would have a real close idea as to where you stand on the weight. However, probably the best idea is when you pick up the trailer, go get it weighed. Something I didn't do. Mainly because I did not think of it. As this forum shows, sometimes it takes a while to get smarter. IT is always a learning experience, but a good one.

The web site specs for the 07 3400 are 11800, CC 3940 P.W 2000.. and is 38.4 long.My built in April of 06 3400, just a couple of months before the 07's came out..Is..11650, CC2325, PW 1975 and it is 37.3 long. So they are now building a entirely different 3400..Right???

Well yea..do they think they own the company or something????We could use the extra 1615 lbs of CC snd since this one is a bit singed around the edges and needs to go in for a re work we would consider the ungrade to a new improved 3400.Will check with our dealer.

You could go for the new Big Sky when you get back home! You would have even more carrying capacity when compared to the 3400RL Montana.

Rich--I hope they have the Big Sky at Quartsite--I would love to get your report on it. I'm getting closer to the decision to buy a Big Sky (just got an even better price quote today from a dealer closer to home), but feel the need to get inside one before ordering it--and don't expect to see one until early Feb at the earliest. Hope people who see it sooner share what they find.

We are sure that Beaudry (sp) (the big Tucson dealer) will have the big sky in Quartzsite.we will take a good look, with pictures and give our picky opinion.We will be going down there this weekend.

Don't be too sure, Rich. We were at Beaudry last week and they said they would be getting one but it didn't sound like it would be for a while. Maybe we'll all be pleasantly surprised.

My dealership up here is expecting their first Big Sky to arrive towards the end of Feb. Could be sooner, but probably not... I am sad to hear that they will not have a Big Sky for the upcoming show this weekend.

Well, we had quite a number of discussions awhile back about how unrealistic the numbers were and how flawed the procedure was to determine those ratings. Sounds like Keystone is listening. But I think what they really heard was those prospects questioning the CCC and wondering if they should go buy a different brand with better ratings. In any case, I'm glad to see they've made the change.

I am just having a little fun with the numbers. I don't think anything has changed with the 3400 or any other model. Think that Keystone, as Steve suggest, has decided to be realistic with the numbers.My guess is that the marketing folks were trying to keep the weights more 3/4 ton friendly. The 3400 has also grown a couple of inches over the last couple of years in the specs but still not to the 39 feet plus inches it really is.Marketing does not want them to be to heavy or to long..Marketing..love those folks..
