Monty Headache
I thought I had all the areas covered... The tripod takes care of the kingpin headache. The foam on the awning arms cover that area.. We were camping this last week and I went to open the galley valve, yep came up too soon, four stitches. What a stupid place for a dump valve. I always blame it on some thing else. Jack

OWWIE, sorry bout that.
Maybe a handle for that galley pull, several MOC people have made one or use their awning hook to operate that galley pull.

Maybe this sounds real dumb to many, but I now have a hard hat in my gear and at the top of my check list. When I do stuff on the outside, on goes the hard hat.

I guess I am luckier than you..... I just have a dent in my head about 5 inches long. It's from standing up too soon under the bedroom slide.
After that, we started using one of those swimming "noodles" on the bedroom slide and it feels much nicer when I hit my head.

The awning hook works great and the swimming noodle on the bedroom has saved me many stitches.

Yup---its one heck of a place to put a pull handle. I'm in the process of researching a 12 volt actuator for this valve----push a button & save the noggin...!

I think we've all had the "head knocking" problem. Some are too proud to admit it. We've been over 5 years full time and you'd think that we'd learn. Just yesterday I did it again. I was talking to someone while standing about 3 feet from the overhang. Wouldn't you know it? I turned and walked smack dab into the side of the overhang. No stitches in my forehead; just a lot of blood.

If you're on a site where you have a sewer hookup, why not leave the gray water valves open? The sinks and shower have traps built in so no sewer gases should enter the trailer. That's what we do. But always, always keep the black water valve closed until the tank is full.

I Have a great idea,
Assign the outside maintenance duties to your better half, tell her you will trade her for the inside work. LOL.

The reason we keep gray and galley closed even when on full hookup is because we don't want scum and/or food build up on the bottom of the tanks. This was discussed in detail a while back, might still be found via a search of the archives?? If you have water stored in the tanks it will flush out much of the scum and food. If you leave the tanks open, the debris will collect on the bottom of the tank and dry like concrete. Just our way.

I agree with Al & Carol on this subject. When breaking down to leave I dump the black tank first, leave the valve open then dump the gray & galley tanks. It's claimed some of the liqiud from the gray & galley tanks helps to backwash the black tank.

We keep the galley open but close the gray (unless we are doing laundry) when we are set up for any length of time. We got use to having the galley open in our other unit and like the idea of not worrying about filling up the tank when cooking and doing dishes.

I may be paranoid, but when I have the black tank valve open I don't want any other tank valve open. I do like to have something in the grey & galley tanks when I dump the black tank to help rinse out the hose after dumping.

Carol,
I do the same as you, keep the grey and galley tanks closed. I believe that it helps keep the tanks clean when flushing. I usually also try and run a few gallons of water down the sink and shower again to just make sure everything has been flushed through.

I was glad to see that I'm not the only one to get a leaker on the old dome from the old stand up to soon under the slide. Thanks for the idea Carol and Al I'll try the awning hook idea. Now if I can just remember to no stand up to soon after ducking under the front and finding out theres not as enough room under the bed room slide to stand up at times.

You are all welcome, but, we cannot take credit for the awning hook idea, that is someone elses, maybe a lot of someone elses! I know Glenn (and Lorraine) have one. It has been posted here a number of times, I was just lucky to have remembered it! Anything to save a noggin! And, yep, we all smack ours, I have a habit of running into the side under the bedroom on the street side, have done it a couple of times here in the RGV, lucky, no major damage, other than it shook my brains out a little!
Oh, the reason we keep that GALLEY tank closed is cause of food particles, man, they can get nasty if they get dry!

If you want to see how fast you can really move - have the better half start closing the slide while you are under there pulling the valve !! She asks first (or waits for a signal)now !
