Landing Gear Fuse Blown

My landing gear stopped working while raising the front of the unit. I found that the fuse had blown between the battery cable and the landing gear switch. The landing gear works when contacting the wires by the fuse. All wiring is in very good condition. Ever time I insert a new fuse it blows. Could it be a problem with a bad contact in the switch? Anyone have any ideas?

Several have had this problem including me. If I'm not mistaken the fuse is 20 amps. If you replace it with a 30 amp DC fuse it will work okay. That's what we did 3 years ago and everything is still working.
For some reason, it will blow the 20 amp fuses time and again. I don't know if it's because the motor heats up and draws more current or what. But you won't hurt anything if you use the 30.

Sounds like a good short to me, check the wires at the switch to there is always that possability that one of the positave wires got pinched and causing a short, and backtrack the wires from the moter too.

I would look for something going to ground also. Check wires with OHM meter if you have one.

The fuse in my 2004 2955RL is a 30AMP, or at least it was. I have replaced with a DC circuit breaker and have had no further problems.

BUT the reason mine blew was that Lorraine stayed on the switch after the legs were fully retracted.
If you are continuely blowning fuses there must be another problem. I would investigate the situation before doing anything else. By over sizing or bypassing the fuse you are just looking for trouble and that trouble comes in the form of FIRE.

I replaced the fuse (20A) with the heavier guage wire type. That seems to work. I tested the wires by connecting them where the fuse goes, and the wires did not get hot. I feel comfortable with this fix. Thanks for your input everyone. It's very much appreciated.

Thanks ols1932. Your fix seems to work.

I would be wondering why the factory installed recommended fuse size would keep blowing. Oversizing the fuse in my opinion is not the answer to fix the problem.

It could be they underengineered it. Every Montana has different front end weights. Ours for example has an extra 300 lbs due to the 2 Lifeline batteries we added.

Also, I'm told, that there is a difference in the way ac fuses and dc fuses are made. 20 volt ac fuses are not as good as 20 volt dc fuses. Don't quote me, this is what a EE told me.
