Quality Control

Have had our 2980 2005 for just one year now. Have many factory blunders. Cupboard door in bedroom fell off, due to screws being striped when put in, foot rest keeps falling off of one recliner because of the same problem, 2 day/night shades were broke from day one, speakers buzz, many of the windows are very sticky when opening or closing. What has happened to quality control? I have spoke with customer at Keystone and told them that this is our 2nd Montana in 3 years, both new, and we are not sure that we would get another one. Any other feelings like ours?

QC across the entire industry is poor. It's not isolated to any specific company. From my experiences and from seeing what is posted here, it appears that either a unit is trouble-free (like ours...knock on wood) or there are a lot of problems. Most everybody that has approached Montana with problems and an open mind seem to be satisfied with their after-sales service.

When we toured the factory during the 1st MOC rally and talked to Montana staff, they didn't dodge the issue at all. They were willing to work with owners to get issues resolved and actually took notes about our complaints. One thing they were hammered on was quality control. If you do a search on these forums, you will see a few discussions about QC at Montana and some of the posts described things that Montana is doing to resolve these issues.

Also, remember that Montana is an assembler of many parts. The staff that was present at the rally pointed out that there a limited number of suppliers in the RV industry and they are at their mercy when it comes to quality of components. This fact was blatantly obvious with the shortage of RV stoves early last year. The manufacturer had a run of bad propane regulators and virtually no RV manufacturer was able to get stoves for a couple of months. Of course, this applies to their recliners and windows, but not the cabinetry issues you are reporting.

Luckily, our 2004 is still doing good. No major faults. The only drawer that broke was due to my tripping over the dog's leash. We replaced the poor quality Quest DVD player with a Samsung unit and we will be calling Fantastic to get the gasket replaced to fix the sticking issue, as described be Glenn in a recent post.

I hope Montana can help fix your issues. Good Luck.

Fred

Some issues with the windows may be "slag" created during the manufacturing process. This can be found when you cannot raise a window all the way. Look on the inside track and see if there is a bulge of black caulking. That caulking is covering the rough slag bumps. The way they fixed mine was to scrape off the caulk, clean up the extra metal and slag, and recaulk. Fixed it great, no further problems.

Other sticky windows can be fixed by being sure the window is free of dirt and stuff, and then spray with silicone.

Be sure when opening and closing windows to apply equal pressure on both sides or, on the top and bottom. Don't want to get them crooked, they will jam then. SIGH

Welcome to the forum, others will happen along and offer some additional advice.

I agree with Fred and Jen, that chair problem is a vendor issue. If you reported your shades as being torn from the get go, and reported it right away, there should be a record of that, Keystone will provide you with new shades, or at least, they have for most everyone I know and/or have heard about having this situation.

I think you will also find after reading the forum for a while, that as upsetting as your problems are to you, they are very minor in relation to some of the problems others have had. And, you are talking to one who says, I wish I had YOUR problems, only I am sure you would not want to have had ours! Keystone stood behind their name and fixed our unit, big problems and small.

Good luck on the fixes, and again, WELCOME TO THE MOC!!
