Thanks, Steve. We are packing up the next few days and hope to get an early evening start on Thursday. Might get to see the dam for my next Labrador in Colorado on Sunday. Going to Labrador field trial in Larkspur, Co. Terrie is conceding to a new pup in 2010, reluctantly. Today we'll contact our RV Insurance company and hopefully things will settle down after that. We've replaced most of the stuff we'll need (fire extinguisher, two way radios, etc) and got a new tire. Unfortunately, I probably won't get new fly fishing equipment before we go. Maybe I'll stop at Cabelas and get a new outfit there on the way through. See you at Eby Pines on the way to the rally.

It is one thing to break into your unit and steal your stuff. It adds insult to injury when they slash your tire while they are at it for no reason other than spite! I have trouble turning the other cheek to spiteful people. sorry for your ordeal.

Sounds like somebody at the storage lot isn't doing there job, and not watching what goes on. for the amount of items taken it wasn't a smash and grab, probably one of your fellow storage lot people, slime balls.
I sure hope that you had the serial numbers on that Colt Python, that was a realy a good wheel gun, and you can't buy them anymore, if you do find one it will empty your wallet. to bad Colt stoped making pistols and automatics, just military stuff now.
After I had the last brake in I purchased a stand alone alarm system it will make a heck of alot of noise, and burglers dont like noise, or attention getters.
Bummer...

Don, where did you get your trailer alarm? A few years back, I had to break into my Mom's house because she left the keys 4 hours away. I drilled out the lock in a few seconds and we were in the house. Then I learned I could have done the same thing by getting a 2x4 about 3/4 inch wider than the door frame and tapping it into place - the door pushes open. The stick frame house isn't much more secure than the trailer.

Sue, Stiles, CDaniels, the Steves and others, thanks for the kind words. We will enjoy our vacation. I view the items as "things" and my world doesn't revolve around "things" - if someone I cared about got hurt I would be upset.

Radio Shack has one for about $25. Just a noise maker. But that's what you want to "deter" the intruder.

Don and Wayne, thanks for the info. I'm thinking about it. However, no one heard anything - other than a 96 year old lady that heard gunshots. I figure if people didn't hear gunshots at four in the morning in the country, they probably wouldn't hear the alarm. I need to find another place with secured parking.

Ron,
What a bummer, if the thieves want to get in, they'll find a way no matter what we do to slow them down. However, here is what I have done. Installed key locks on both sides of the compartment doors. Linda doesn't use the laundry door. So I screwed it down with four drywall screws, right through the carpet. The screws don't show as they are under the carpet. To bad we can't have an alarm that releases poisen gas for the thieves. Oh well, with my memory I'd set it off on myself. Good luck finding a better storage location.

Phil, I don't know. The insurance seems to be pretty good, so far. They want us to make sure we get additional items into the police report and get an "amended" report. Jerry, we will start looking when we get back from the rally. I wish I could keep it on the driveway, but the covenant in the subdivision prohibits it, and I'm not as good as some of those magicians that can make it disappear.

We do have a camper alarm..It is a motion detector but it is really usless. Drove past a local storage facility early in the morning last winter and heard one alarming.. so who was there to hear it?? We do keep it activated since we are along side the house and well lighted.

There is little one can do to keep a dedicated thief away. The local police told me that Noise..lots of it will scare most of them away.

I would think a set of Hadleys tied in with the alarm system would do the trick. I'm sure someone could rig someithing up with them.......Perhaps hooking in the scare lights to flash would work also.

In a storage facility someone has got to be there to see or hear all these alarm things. a local storage facility has a system like a home alarm that will transmit a breech of the fence or gate to a alarm company but they are still not there and by the time "help arrives" it is over.. and it is very expensive..The only safe option is to remove all valuables from the camper every time you leave it and be prepared to suffer damage or loss to what is left.. Storage facilities have to meet "standards" in order for most insurance companies to cover them while in storage.Check with your company and do not assume it is covered.
