people still traveling

I been here at this CG since monday and every evening it fills up. Right now theres only 3 spaces left. Its right off I-40, so people stop over for the night. As We walk around, the plates are from almost everywhere. Also 3 montana' here besides me. None are Moc's, 2 said they had no interest to be! Anyway diesel has gone down around here from 4.67 to $4.55.9, the pilot lowered their price 2 cents in a 2 hr period. So it seems people are still on the road, Big diesel coaches, gas coaches, tag-a-longs, and fifthwheels. Also 2 tenters, one from new york, one from florida.

We also, from our limited travels, haven't noticed much of a change in travel. Another indicator, for me anyway, is that people are not making a change in the way they handle their commute.

We are also seeing RVs on the road and in the parks but in some cases these same RVers are staying a bit closer to home and not traveling any further than necessary.

We are still traveling BUT have made some changes. One of which is we stopped eating 2 meals a day 7 days a week at restaurants. We now eat maybe 3 to 4 meals a week in restaurants. Another is to bypass some of the attractions we have already seen within the past few years. Even in Nashville, for the most part, we stayed pretty close to the park. Here in southeast PA we are staying in my daughters yard for 3 weeks rather than a week and than moving on to some RV park for the following 2 weeks. Most all of our stays will be for a week at the weekly rates rather than 2 to 4 nights at the higher nightly rate. We are also looking a lot closer at Passport America parks. Perviously we wouldn't necessarily stay at a PA if another park was 10 to 20 miles closer to our destination.

Travelling the Ohio and PA TPK's for about 265 miles on our way to the N/E rally we noted that Rv traffic was sparce both on the road and in the rest areas In fact we were able to fuel at the truck pumps and most of the time we were alone. Helen got OJT on fueling at the big truck pumps and we have not been able to do that before. Local C.G's are doing well.

This RV Park we are at in Tallahassee is not as busy as usual. This is the third time here and the owners said business was down. It definitely not as busy as the other times we were here.
Oil is at $134.00 a barrel this morning before the market opens. You had better fill your tanks today, I am sure the prices will be on their way up.

Also another way of saving $$$ while traveling, We usually stay a week or longer, mostly at a state park, COE park, or PPA park, which for seniors only $9.00 to $11.00 with water, electric. Some COE CG's even have sewer at these prices. If you ever thru Demopolis ALA, theres a really nice COE right on the Tom Bigbee river with 30/50 amp, water and sewer for $9.00 per day,and when we stay week or more we found that buying the local newspaper you can save with coupons at stores, even senior discounts at local resturants on certain days. Thrift stores another way to save bunches of $$$. then when we ready to travel on farther, we pack some sandwiches, drinks in a small cooler and stop at rest areas for a picnic, and relax. There are all kinds of ways to off set the higher price of fuel. Lots of things in our lives we cant control, but there are many many things that we can. It just takes some thought and working together. Glenn has the right idea!! Glenn dont know if you know of this park in Nashville...Seven points COE park, its right on the lake, less then 10 miles from Two Rivers CG, and its only $9.00 per night, 30/50 amp water, but no sewer, all paved sites, right off Old Hickory blvd and Bell RD. I know you like Nashville as I do.

Thanks Tom for the heads up on Seven Points COE but as it stands right now we will hopefully be at Two Rivers for years to come we love it and the all folks we have met there. But than again you just never know. Times and travel costs are changing and Seven Points may not be an option but a requirement somewhere down the road.

We are at Hill AFB in Utah and this place has been full, or pret near full, every night. I know it is cheaper than a civilian park but full none the less.

We experienced the same thing on the way back from RGV this spring, campgrounds in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, FULL UP! Raleigh NC, yikes REALLY full up.

Now, the campground in Raleigh was largely full timers. So, discounting that place.

Makes me wonder, are people traveling NOW before the prices go higher and higher and higher???

Carol, thats probably right about people traveling before price increase to where they wont be able to. Also many probably already had made their plans and decided to follow thru. No one seems to worry about fuel according to the boats on the lakes and most are ski doos and ski boats with large bass boats running wide open!, But they fun to watch, lol.

Tom,

Maybe they have private oil wells??

They obviously have more $$. Not sure our pontoon will see a wet bottom this year.

There seems to be lots of grumping about fuel prices, but the road and lakes seem to be pretty well as busy as ever.

We didn't see lots of RV's on the road when we went from Texas through Oklahoma. We did see more on I44 in Missouri and then fewer agian in Illinois. Passed lots of RV parks and didn't see that they were all full. There were open spots in Branson when we were there for Memorial weekend. We didn't pull the Monatana because of Diesel prices, and we had a free place to stay once we got to Peoria and Branson. Our trips will be closer to home, unless we are out on storm work, or when we have the time to travel and stay in an area for a period of time. We had plans to pull the Monty up to the Dakotas after our family wedding in Peoria, but Bob had to be back in Corpus Christi on the 29th of May.

Glen, we stayed at Two Rivers when we were in Nahsville. It was a great RV park with nice people. We will surely stay there again if we are in the area. We were parked at the end of a lane. It made it very interesting when a big rig turned around our Monty.

On our way from KC, MO, toward Yellowstone, the campgrounds have been reasonably busy. The one here in Cheyenne, WY gave us the last big rig spot they had. Every day of travel, we see many rigs moving on the roads. I won't try to analyze, but that is what I see.

I think Carol is right, people are traveling while they can afford it.
I just heard on the news that gas probably will go to 6.00 a gal. by the end of summer, that means here in Cal. diesel will be around 7.00 to 7.50 a gal.
When will it end?

Guess it depends on where you are. We noted a definite lack of Rv traffic on our run to the N.E rally. we have cut back even further. We did go to the N.E rally and we will go to the National FCRV rally in Pa then the Sept MOC rally in Goshen.. that will be @1500 miles total rather than the @ 5K plus we had planned this summer. It is sad to see that Big Ford and the 3400 sitting in the driveway..such is life..Of course this area is hard hit.. Layoffs at Continental and United airlines..Cle Hopkins is a Continental hub not to mention Ford and GM layoffs and the associated suppliers..So many people in so much trouble not of their doing..

We have been away from home for about 5 weeks now. All the campgrounds have been busy. One day a bunch pull out and fill up before the day is over. We are in ABC campground in Branson Missouri, and has been full with in and out campers for over a week. Saw lots of campers on the roads too. Between here and Colorado, and around Missouri and Kansas. Starting back tomorrow.

All the campgrounds have been busy. Not with full timers either.
