What a great place to work, Illapah. I have been there twice - both time when I was a teen. It has impressed me greatly. The Going to the Sun Hwy was a great memory. Have fun.

That sounds like a wonderful position for the summer. Are you driving one of the old, reconditioned red buses? The ones that are like a touring car?

I am really looking forward to it. Never done anything like that. I drive school bus here during the school year.
Will be driving the Red Bus as well as shuttles. Will post here what I thought of it at the end of the season.

Kathi,
When would you suggest getting to Kalispell to be able to enjoy nice weather. Say high 50's low 60's during the day.

Virgil47, I would say right about now! It is 63 right now. Sun is out and the sky is of course BIG! For those of you that don't know what the reconditioned red bus's are here is a pic of one. They are fabulous.
--edited by HomeOnTheRoad-- The picure is bigger than the guidelines for file size and for display size and was changed. In the future please be sure pictures meet the guidelines.

kathi, We were in kalispel last August and visited the Flathead Lake Lodge where I worked one summer in 1952 and this was the first time back. What a change, but with the same family, they even had a shirt for me that had "Staff" on it. When I worked there it was $50.00 per person per nite, now it's almost $400 per person, how time changes !
Glacier was gorgeous and we had a wonderful time.

Bill, we were in Hungry Horse, between Kalispell and West Glacier, for a month, from mid-July to mid-August, last year. As I recall, the weather was absolutely gorgeous. And NO BUGS! We usually wore a light jacket outside in the evenings.
I have to agree, Glacier NP is gorgeous.

We vacationed at Yellowstone and Glacier a few years back when we had our motorhome. Yellowstone was nice, but no camparison to Glacier for us.
Glacier has to be one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
Our last day was a hike on the "weathermaker"...we were wearing t-shirts and a little ways into it, it started snowing! This was the middle of July too. We got soaking wet, but no way was that going to stop us...
On the way out we saw a moose and her baby cruising down the middle of a stream.
I still want to go back there and spend more time.

We just did both (well not all of Glacier - next time). And we so agree with you. I enjoyed Yellowstone but don't want to go back. I'll go back to Glacier in a heartbeat. The road was still closed and we didn't get to go all the way over.
Happy trails............................

Right now St. Mary's in on fire, but they expect to have the fire contained by the beginning of next week and the roads open again. It is the most beautiful place on this earth IMHO...I love living here. I can walk out get in my car and in 15 minutes be in Glacier. I love life...God is good.

How bad is the St. Mary fire? We enjoyed the restaurant on the west side of the north/south highway and a quarter mile or so north of the Going to the Sun Road. Can't remember the name. Even more, we enjoyed the Two Sisters restaurant a few miles north of St. Mary.
I agree with the others. We enjoyed Yellowstone but Glacier is awesome. We did Glacier first, then went to Yellowstone immediately after. We would have enjoyed Yellowstone more had we not just been to Glacier. We were in each for a month.
on edit - Park Cafe is the name of the restaurant in St. Mary.
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

There is another cafe at St. Mary's. It is also an RV park. It is almost acros the road from where you turn to go into the park and up a little hill. Run by a family - we were waited on by a Grandson. Really, really good food. Not fancy, just good.

There isn't much here in Montana that is fancy. Just a whole bunch of really nice people who are down to earth. The only people who flash their money are the people who come from out of state and buy those huge log cabin homes that are around all the lakes. When we were out on Whitefish lake the other day we couldn't figure out if they were homes or Lodges. We finally decided they were just huge homes. Beautiful but not what I would call a home. Maybe a castle but still not a home....To much room for me. I don't even have a family that big that could live in most of them. Then to clean them, ooooh not me...I can't even keep up with what I have...

Is the fire in St. Mary's doing much damage to the park?
We will be there in Sept. This will be our first time looking forward to it. We have been to Yellowstone a few years ago. This trip we will first go to the Grand Tetons, then to Glaicer.
