air compressor
Just received notice that Sears is having a sale. I am looking for a good air compressor to carry in the Montana and also use around the home for light use. I want to pump up tires to about 80 pounds at a respectable time frame.
Question is: What is the SCFM that I would be happy with?

Illapah,
An option to a compressor is what we use for off-roading and RVing. I picked up an aluminum CO2 tank and a fixed 150 PSI regulator with air hose for about $50. It's light weight and will inflate even the largest RV tires hundreds of times. Also great with a air nozzle for blowing out the dust etc. from the nooks & crannys. When we air down for off road, it re-inflates in a heart beat. They sell this pre-built as the "Power-Tank", but it's $400. By the way, how's Ely doing these days? We operated the old Tracking Station up on the mountain for more than 20 years. You might have known a good friend of mine, Jack Ambrose. He was the Site Manager for a long time and grew up in Ely. We're thinking about a trip up to Ely one of these days, maybe Cave Lake. Can you suggest anything else in the area suitable for a 3295?

Yepper,
My $300 plus- Viair gave up the Ghost on our last trip, around Sedona, some Soccer mom with a child in the back seat passed us and pulled in right front of me doing around 85 MPH, I was doing 70-(Without the Monte behind us) I laid on the air horn until Sue made me stop. For some reason, the compressor decided to lock up, blowing the 30 amp fuse.
So...being the over-prepared idiot that I am, just whipped out one of Two 5# CO2 tanks I carry, and spliced into my on board air lines, disconnected the Viair pump, and am happy as a Clam with it. I second the idea of the air tank, however, I have 7 of the 5# tanks laying around, plus a few big ones-20#?
I went to Harbor Freight and bought the Viair Knock off and will install it on the truck, but will keep the tanks.
I have the Sears 110 Volt pancake tank compressor, you would be pleased with that as well.
Good luck,
Ozz

Ozz suggested I look at the Harbor Freight 12V air compressor item # 93186 for $59.99.
Just bought it, but have not tried it. The store clerk told me it is a better machine than most, especially in that price range.

Keep us posted as to how it works. I have a WalMart Campbell-Hausfeld...it says 250 psi, but you could eat lunch waiting to pump up one Montana tire.

I have a Sears pancake compressor, us it all the time and it has been very reliable. Can inflate a tire on my truck to 80psi with no problem, the compressor is rated to 125. I am also looking at the 12volt compressor at harbor freight for on the road so I don't have to crank the generator for the 110V.

I bought the Harbor Freight version for $49.99 last month. I have used it several times to pump up the Montana's tires (am I the only one with slow leaks?). It will take a tire (still on the trailer) from 70 lbs. to 80 in less than three minutes. I am very pleased so far.

Carl, I would get them critters in and have the leaks repaired. I didn't lose any air on my 3800 mile trip.

If the temperatures have been slowly creeping down in your part of the country it's not slow leaks, they are just losing pressure due to the temp change.
