First thing to do is get the manual. It is available online. The fireplace is held in with four screws, a little hard to see, and screwed in at an angle. The unit is light, just pull it out and lay it on it's back. I believe the directions say to remove the right side trim bracket and slide the glass out to the right. After cleaning, just reverse the steps. If any of the bulbs are not working, this would be the time to replace them. Instructions are also in the manual.

It is not that big of a deal to me, I have removed mine about 5 times to vacuum it out and change light bulbs AND clean the glass,Just remove the four screws at each corner of the fireplace pull it out and then turn it upside down remove all the screws on the bottom panel loosen and a few on the back and side panel and the Glass will slide out ,it is just time consuming that's all and ALOT of little screws

After having my fireplace not stay on I took it out and cleaned plus the front glass and it works fine now. The fan sucks up a lot of dust and it must make the thermostat overheat.

You got that right about the dust in there and we have Cats too and ALOT of fur and it will mess things up if you do not keep it clean in there so I do it every few months and you get pretty fast at doing it after awile

Was not difficult for me. 4 screws holds in place, and it pulls out.
