Dish Net question

I need a question answered on the proper dish to use.
I have Dish Net system and it is the 500 type, that is supose to have the two round things that point at the dish one is 110 deg and the other is 119 deg. can I use the single type dish and if I need to see 119 I can just turn it.
or should I just get a newer type dish for the trailer? ( 500 type ) with the 2 round white things on it.
also where can I get one of these new dishes if I do decide to get one without having to buy another receiver.

Thanks TT2

Hello TT2,

We had the Dish 500 for many years. We have a protable dish with one head (LNB). We always had to decide weather we wanted to watch 119 or 110. We could switch back and forth between the 2 Sats. and it worked just fine but that required us to go outside and realign the Dish.

However we have changed to Direct TV because on theirs we can get everything we want off one Sat., so we no longer have to switch back and forth.

You can use a 2 LNB Sat Dish but it takes a little more time setting up.

Hope this helps.

I have not looked but believe ebay has what you are looking for. Those round things at the end of the arm are called LNB. They come as a single or dual hookups. Just this AM I read what LNB stands for and now I forgot. Damm.

Don I just went and got the book. Here tis. LNB - Low Noise Block. The LNB is mounted at the focal point of a satellite antenna to receive signals transmitted from the satellite. It converts the high signal frequency to a lower freq. That is right out of my antenna manuel. Hope you find what you want.

TT2, If you decide to get a new dish definitely check ebay. I use a single lnb for my dish network receiver in the camper. I have been checking into getting the dish 500 dish with dual lnb's and will probably get mine from ebay. You can also check locally with Dish retailers, sometimes they offer specials that come with a new dish and receiver. If you go that route you would have a back up or one for the bedroom.
You can definitely go out and change sat's if you want to watch the other one after it is set up, it will take re-aligning the dish though.

Hey TT2----I think my son has a spare unit; let me check and see if its a dual LNB---if so, he may give it away. If that being the case, you pay the freight & its yours. I'll get back to you later.

I have a Dish 500 system. It is a duel LNB, but all you need to do is bring in one cable and your receiver can lock on two both 110 and 119. With a Sat finder and a compass I am getting better can be up in 5 minutes or less. The receiver will integrate the signals so you don't switch between the two satellites. I love my system, built a very low ground mount with PVC pipe.

A little off topic but while camping last week a motor home was setting up and the guy got out with his compass, walked around his site and found the right place for his dish. What was interesting was the way he mounted it. I did not go over and look at it close but it was a pole about 3' long with some spikes on the bottom and a slide hammer on the top. He found his spot on the ground and 3 or 4 hits with the slide hammer the pole was secured and all he did was set the dish on top, a few adjustments and it was ready to go. No big board to mount the unit on or water jugs to hold it down. Took him all of 5 minutes.

Now I have go Goggle and find where he got the pole.

So if I want to add sat. all I need to do is buy the equipment, run the coax to the sat. prep outside my front door and turn it on? Just as if I were hooking up cable coax in a campground except to the sat.input.

We had the dish 500, but had trouble finding satilites at many campgrounds, so switched to direct tv and love it, got dish at campingworld and it works just sitting on the ground.
