humming brake actuator

Hubby and I just arrived back at our FL lot. After uhooking, we heard a loud hum coming from the brake actuator. We thought it would stop after awhile, but it's been 4 hours and it's still humming. Hot to the touch.

We tried plugging it back to the truck and operating the brake controller. That made the hum louder when the brake was activated, but it returned to the same hum after releasing.

Any ideas?

Update: We fixed it! Had to disconnect the battery and it went off.

Did it stay off when you reconnected the battery? Should not have been humming unless it had voltage going to it. And it should not have had voltage going to it unless the brakes were activated by the truck, or by the breakaway switch being pulled. Did you check the breakaway switch?

You really need to find the source of the problem before traveling again. If the brake is getting voltage and actuating while traveling, it could cause the brake to burn up.

i had a problem similar to that when i installed my disk brakes electric over hydraulic actuator i couldn't figure out why my actuator was still running and i didn't have the Tv connected i found out that the breakaway switch was defective even though it was plug in to open the circuit it kept the circuit close and sending current to the actuator once i replaced the break away switch work like a charm

Check to see if you may have pulled out the pin on the emergency brake breakaway cable located on your hitch.
