Prodigy help now please
Those of you with prodigy might help me understand the setup more clearly. My signiture tells you what I am trying to rig up. I think I am following instructions. Have the setting on 6.5 and have it set for second level boost. Does this sound right to those of you with experience?

The second level of boost sounds OK but I've always adjusted mine of 6.0. Perhaps I need to review the manual.

Good morning, Stiles. Steve is not on the forum right now (!!!) and is going to dictate a response for you ... per Steve:
"6.5 sounds about right but if you don't think it's stopping well enough, then increase it a little at a time. Ours Montana weighs about the same as yours and I prefer a boost of 3. Boost is used only on initial brake application."
(My skills as a legal secretary for 20 years haven't gone to waste!)
Have a wonderful day!

Howdy, Stiles. We went with the 6.0, as noted in the book as a starting point, and Boost 3. Doggone thing stopped like there was no trailer at all on the back. After several stops and starts, I got the feeling that the trailer brakes may be working just a little more than the truck brakes (felt great, but I'm worried about the pad life of the trailer brakes if I tend to lean on the trailer brakes more than the truck brakes). As such, I kept it at 6.0 and went to Boost 2. Doesn't stop quite as quickly/firmly, BUT it is still stopping at a very confortable rate (a "felt" reduction of maybe 10%). Keep in mind that I probably have a lighter trailer than yours (our current GCVWR is about 17.5K).

Stiles, I use 6.3 and Boost 2 for mine. For a while, until I settled on this setting, I was getting some trailer to and fro surge on stops and starts. It works great now.

I am running a 6.3 and boost of 3. My rig is lighter than yours, so that will make a difference. I set mine up per instructions. I then played with mine a few times, and upped the gain until I got a jerking feel, and then backed down until it stopped.

Weight probably has a lot to do with it. Our 3295RK weiged 13,980 at last weighing (admittedly quite awhile back). I moved from boost 2 to boost 3 because I figured in an emergency stop I want as much initial stopping power as possible. 2 is probably fine for most rigs.
For a year or so I ran ours on 7. When I had the brakes checked by our selling dealer he told me I had the brakes cranked down too tight. The linings were only half worn after about 20,000 miles but the magnets were nearly worn off at a 45 degree angle and the linings had some heat stress cracks. I backed off to 6.0 but didn't think it stopped as well as I'd like so moved it slowly up to about 6.3 or 6.5. I've forgotten now exactly what the setting was and no longer have the Prodigy to check the setting. On the current truck's integrated controller (essentially a Prodigy from what I understand) I have it set at 7.5. Hopefully I'm not stressing the trailer brakes but the controller uses the computer to match trailer braking to truck braking so I think we're ok.

The amount of gain you dial in to the Prodigy depends on how tight your trailer brakes are adjusted, I back my brakes off until there is no drag and then test the controler in an empty lot, that takes a gain of about 8 and a boost of 2 on my unit your results may vary.

Thank all of you for your input. I did a 500 mile weekender with the settings as stated and it seemed to work well. It was a humid weekend with drizzle. Whether the road was wet or dry, I got about the same result.

Exactly, Stiles. Wet, dry, humid, not, hot, cold, forward, backward, beginning of trip, later in the trip with warmer brakes, doesn't matter. That's the beauty of the Prodigy. Get it set right, then forget about it. No need to adjust for temperature variations, environmental or brake temperature. I think you'll really enjoy the new Prodigy.

I just ordered a Prodigy from RV Parts Outlet. Currently I have a Voyager that worked fine with our Montana 2750 but with the new 3475 I felt it time to upgrade the controller. Hopefully it's a plug and play and I'll start off with 6.0 and 2 (maybe 3 as Steve said). This has been a useful topic.
Thanks everyone........

I received my Prodigy last week and installed it today. It almost seemed too simple. Just plug and play. Hopefully I haven't missed something. I haven't got our new Monty yet so couldn't set the gain (think you have to have trailer hooked on) but set the boost to 2. So far no error messages have shown up. Hopefully it stays that way when I hook Monty up on April 6. That's the day we arranged to take delivery.
At first I had decided to leave my Voyager installed to bring Monty home because I knew it worked. You know how boys are with new toys. Prodigy was just sitting there and begging to be installed!!!! I had to give in.

I have mine set at 6.3 and boost of 2, but I think you'll find that boost in the more imprortant of the two settings. Even though I have mine set to a max voltage of 6.3 volts, it rarely ever gets above 4 volts. The pendulum inside the unit controls the voltage. Boost on the other hand seems to have a sigificant impact on the stopping. I played around with all three settings, and 2 seemed right for me.

I have made only one trip with mine, so far, just installed in a few weeks ago. Mine is set at 7.2 with boost 2, works great. I have a feeling I will dial it down a little fter I get some more use with it.
Remember, once your brakes heat up a little, the adjustment with be different. The manual recommends adjusting it with warm breaks, so keep that in mine.
