Stripped Wet Bolt?
Had my wet bolt kit installed in Feb. and went to check torque as advised by my dealer. All were good except one which seems stripped. It will not tighten to 40 ft lbs like the others. Any one have this issue with their wet bolts before? Thanks!

You holding a backup wrench, or depending on the knurled part of the bolt to hold? I sure wouldn't think those bolts would be easy to strip.

Same thought about back up wrench. You can get a replacement bolt from Dexter.

Made sure my other wrench was on the head of the bolt when I attempted to torque. The torque is only 40ft lbs. on these per instructions so I find it hard to believe they could strip. Talked to dealer who installed them and I will pick up a couple to keep on hand as necessary and he will replace it next week. First trip is next weekend up to Lake George, NY.

I had a bolt strip recently when I was installing the MorRyde X Factor. I emailed MorRyde and they sent me a new bolt. I asked for a nut also, but I did not receive it. I can always pick a nut up or use one from the bolts I removed.
You can call Ben W. at 574-293-1581 x 219 (MorRyde) and explain your situation and he will probably take care of it. They were very responsive to me.
Are you able to replace the bolt yourself if they send you one? This might simplify things.

I have my wet bolt kit sitting in the garage and will be installing it in a couple of weeks so I hope that I don't have any problems.

Make sure you check each bolt before installing it to be sure the holes are drilled through and connect. I had two that weren't!

Pump some grease in the bolts before you install them to make sure they will accept grease and they are drilled all the way through.

If you have trouble getting the wet bolts into the bronze bushings Dexter and Mor/ryde use a 9/16 (I think) ream. Some of them are compressed a little and need the additional clearance.
Good luck.

I checked all the bolts, nuts, bushings, zerks and grease holes and they all seem to be good to go. I will be installing it on the way to Siskiyou. Thanks for the input.

If you're out somewhere distant from a dealer or vendor and discover a stripped bolt, just drill a 1/8" hole thru nut and bolt, then kotter key it. This will gain peace of mind till the replacement can be had. Ooppps ... I'm assuming you have access to a hand drill?

Had the wet bolt kit installed by the dealer first of May. Never checked the torque after picking it up from the dealer, thought I could trust their work. Took one short trip (200 miles) two weekends ago, no problems. Now we are getting ready for a long trip to Yellowstone at the end of the month so I am checking everything and found three of the new wet bolts stripped. All others wet bolts torqued to 40 ft lbs, but three just keep spinning. I called the dealer and will be taking it in Monday for it to be fixed.

So, are these grade 8 bolts we are discussing? National fine threads I would think? If so, me thinks something is amiss.

Mor/ryde doesn't give the grade of the Wet Bolt. The installation sheet identifies them as "RE43-004 Shackels with 9/16"-7/16-20 Wet Bolt 3.4" long".

Is the nut stripped, or is the bolt stripped at the splined area were it seats in the hanger. The reason I as is, when I installed my wet bolt kit some of the original bolts were stripped at the spline. I'm sure the hole through the hanger was worn bigger than it should have been. If this is the case there isn't much holding the bolt.

Installed the wet bolt kit last October, chamfered all grease holes where the exit towards the bronze bushings. If you do not do this you risk the possibilty of the sharp edge of the grease hole will pick up the bronze from the bushing and plug the hole preventing any grease to exit. The bolts should be of grade 8 quality but I doult it as they are a product of India. The nuts are likely equivalent to a grade 3 or maybe 5. I would try to remove, examine and if damaged, replace the nut as it may be stripped and the bolt threads still in usable shape.

I am not doing a thing to it as I am taking it back to the Dealer who installed them. I will let them fix the problem, what ever it is...stripped bolt or stripped nut. I will let you know what they find next week.

Yep, 8e3k0, I think you got it right, another import problem. Probably no more than grade 3, torquing to grade 5 7/16 NF specs. Funny thing. I looked at the installation instructions; they give grades on the other bolts, but not the shackle bolts. I don't have Moryde suspension; don't think I want it.

I think 8e3k0 said India. Same place that crappy red regulator is imported from. Sad thing, these countries have the technology to build good products, but in order to send them here at low prices, they choose to lower quality standards.
