Jacks

I am interested what some of you more experienced Montana users, use for jacks when on the road. I have two 20 ton bottle jacks, but realize there are right ways and wrong ways to use jacks on a 5th wheel.

What jacks do you use? How do you use them? What do you lift - the frame, the axle, or?

I have used a 6 ton bottle jack and place it under the U-bolts of the axle.

Same here, I figured 6 ton was plenty big enough...lift half the rig at a time and subtract the pin weight.

I carry 2 6-ton jacks and 6 4X4 blocks 2 ft long 4-2X4 blocks 2 ft long and 4 2-foot square ¾ plywood panels.

I happened to have purchased most of that on our first trip in order to handle the 5th wheel because the landing gear / front legs had failed. After I repaired the electrical problem with the new landing gear / front legs the only time I use them now is when stuck (twice in travel parks) and when the trailer is in need of more leveling than I can get putting it up on those orange square pads that work so well.

We have a 12 ton jack (I think it is). We’ve had 2 flats to attend with and called someone else for help both times. I haven’t used the jack at all out on the road but I wouldn’t want to be caught without it.

I carry a 12 ton bottle jack and a block of wood with a hole drilled into it for the jack to go into. I put the block of wood under the axle on the U bolts.

Bottle Jack centered between the axle U-Bolts, or now I can use the Level-Up Jacks to lift one side or all 4 wheels

I carry a 8ton from HF and I made a bracket out of a pc of channel with a comp welded on to fit the top of the jack. it fits right on the axel under the u bolts. BTW Thanks OZZ for the Inspiration!!!

I have used the truck jack three times to change flat tires on the Montana. The jack is rated to lift our dually and easily lifts the Montana.

I do it a little differently. I always carry 8" x 10" cribbing blocks in the dually and use a 6 ton bottle jack to get the cribbing blocks under the frame of the rig. I usually use one block to hold the jack under the frame, lift the unit and then place the other blocks in place for support. Then I use the jack to raise the tire for changing by placing it under the u-bolts at the end of the axle with the tire to be changed.
