Caulking on the roof/windows

I am curious as to how the best process would be to re caulk roof seams, edges and around TV antenna, skylight and vents. I have always just covered the previous with new when I had owned an older class 'C'. Now with a newer unit I want to do it right from the beginning.

I used EternaBond for the front and end caps, and the vents. Worked well, and is said to last much longer than caulking.

I've had to replace my attic vents, so I peeled off the old caulk removed the vents installed the new one, cleaned the area and used self leveling caulk, it works wonderful and it sure does look like what the factory uses.

Everyone talks about Eternabond, a tape, but I have no experience with it.

If you do decide to use a caulk, use a Urethane based caulk. Urethane bonds with other materials to make a good seal. It is also paintable, whereas silicone will not take paint well.

Make sure you clean the area the best that you can of all old material before you re-caulk. Urethane based caulk is more forgiving of left-over caulk than silicone base caulk.

I have a lot of experience with Eternabond tape. For me, it's the best thing to use when it comes to any type of roof repair whether it be a puncture or abrasion in the rubber roof. For caulking on the roof, always use a caulk that is specified to be compatible with the rubber roof material.

I'd use Eternabond tape or a marine caulk...or both.
