Problems at campgrounds are becoming more and more common. While this isn't an example, folks who are using RV's as a stationary home and never leave the park are a different type of folks than RVers have been in the past.

In 35 years + we have noticed a shift. It used to be a very polite, friendly experience in the campgrounds. While that is still predomonately the case the influx of rude or mean folks has grown right along with the popularity of RVing. It is unfortunate when some nearby group seems to think they are the only ones in the park and have no qualms about having loud, drunken conversations around the campfire until all hours. In our last outing one campsite was told by the rangers that they would be leaving in the morning if they didn't shut up. They shut up.

Nope, not the same as it used to be, you have to be a little more wary, but there are still a lot of very nice folks to be met along the way.

Ain’t just RVing. Civility and respect is fading away. We recently sold a service oriented business we started in 1984. The difference in people’s attitudes between the beginnng and the sell was incredible.

Even though we live in a nice RV Resort there have been some theft here and there. Last time a bunch of teenagers snuck in the park and went through some cars that were left unlocked. They didn't get caught but they were on camera. There are about 6 of us in the park that have security cameras on our sites. We have also had some people in the park doing drugs and the cameras helped getting rid of them.

The other morning we had a visitor in the park wandering around on sites and didn't care where he went. I went back on my cameras and found him on our site at my front door then he wandered off. I don't think I will confront him. Here is his description.

Big about 300lbs
Walks with out a care in the world
Wears Fur Coat

Hi,

seems more like a couples debate than a Campground issue to me.

I think we deal with the nicest people on earth. Gun people, they are always polite and nice. They call us to order something, we send it to them and put an invoice in the box. If we send something a few thousand miles and they don’t wont to pay there is nothing we can do but they all pay.

You read what this couple did and wonder what were they thinking. What did they gain. Are they nuts or just stupid, try both.

We winter and own property in a RV HOA in Florida. It is a 55 and over community I would say 90 % or better of the folks that live there are on drugs us included and Canadians excluded the majority own guns.

We just have not seen the negative side of RV'ing and camping over the years.

We have been rving or fulltiming since 1970. Never had any problems with anyone, never had anything damaged or stolen. Have meet so many wonderful people. Do carry. Years ago camping in the AZ mountains. Cochise Stronghold. Isolated. Nobody else there. Motorcycle group comes in. Not nice looking folks, tough group, classic look of Hells Angels, etc. 28 years in the Army caused me to pull out my handgun and put in my pocket. They built a fire, cooked food, and came over to our unit and invited us over for a beer. We went. Great time.

I agree. This has nothing to do with the RV lifestyle. I have been RVing since I was a teenager (think VW van pulling a mid 50’s 14 foot Shasta trailer up the California coast) and have found that 95 percent who RV or full time like we do are friendly caring people. These two have other issues and in another situation I believe this woman would have found another weapon to destroy stuff with.

If you saw the picture of my hubby and 3 of his friends that I took on a trip to a HD rally a few years ago you would have thought they were some outlaw bikers..but in truth, they were an engineer, a manager on Camp Peary base, a shift manager for the Railroad, and a guy that owns his own business! You slap some leather, some patches, some boots and do-rags on and put them on a Harley they just don't look the same! lol
