sliding closet door latch
Where can I buy a couple of the small plastic clips that keep the closet doors from opening when we're on the road. One of ours broke and Camping World didn't have any idea whre to find them.
thx...jw

We finally took ours off and have wooden dowels that we put in the runners when we travel. They were harder than heck for me to open.

I just bought a couple and spares at Sun Coast RV in Ocala. Most any Montana dealer should be able to order you some, if they don't have any in stock. They sure are fragile or I'm really rough on them, broke both of mine the same week. There are two types of these latches/clips, so make sure you get the right ones for your wardrobe.

We have yet (knock on wood) to break one. BUT, we do not latch EXCEPT when running down the hard road. When in camp, we reverse the doors, therefore not messing with the things till it is time to head out again.
Cheers,
Carol

We just bought one yesterday when picked our Montana up at the dealer. It was in for the first time for service but we had heard how easy they break and we wanted to have a replacement. It was around $3.50 I think my husband said. I haven't broken one yet but I'm sure I will.

Like, Al & Carol, have not broken one yet and we also reverse the doors when we are set up and only latch them when traveling down the road. On the newer models I noticed they have moved these latches higher (mounting them at the same level as the uppser shelf edge). Was good to see this relocation as I personally have snagged my arms on the latches when reaching into the end shelves. Tom was nice enough to take our latches off and move them up to the shelf level and am no longer puncturing my arms on those darn things. Guess the moral of this is if you have to replace a broken latch you might want to consider remounting the new one at the higher level.

Broke one too. I really hate to go to Ocala and walk by those Montanas again. Maybe they won't be close to the parts store.

I bought two of them when I was in Mesa at a RV dealer, dont remember the name however he told me every rv going down the road uses the same kind and can be purchased at any dealer.

I fixed ours so they wouldn't break any more. I pop-riveted a thin [about .020] piece of steel shim [ 4 places] to the outside of the latch then cut the plastic between the rivets parallel to the latch lip. No more broken latches. The latches are easier to unlatch now also.

Hi Folks,
We too reverse doors when not going down the road.
One thing that has helped is, I rub bar soap on the latches and the doors where they contact. This really helps. I remembered this trick from using bar soap on zippers to make them slipperier.
Happy Camping

One nice thing, the replacement latches are stronger and a little bigger. Of course, they should have been built that way in the first place.

As the others said, just about any RV dealer with a parts department should have them. We bought a couple of spares but have not yet needed them. We also reverse the doors when not on the road both to reduce the odds of breaking the latches and to reduce the aggravation.

Darold, the thread is from 2005.
If you are looking to replace with original then Trekwood might be your best bet. Be aware their shipping is very costly.

I think any Montana dealer should be able to order the latches.
