The water tank....if the pump runs. However, it will probably not run. The water pump shuts off when pressure builds on the output side. With city water pressure applied, the pump should not run.

What Scott said. Pump won't run if set to city water. Pump will pull water from the fresh water tank if it has water water in it and the switch is set to fresh water tank.

The pressure switch for the water pump is located on the pump itself. If the pressure in the water plumbing system from the city water connection is below the setting of the pressure switch, the pump will operate. If the pressure coming in is higher than the pressure switch setting, the pump will not operate.

Thanks; so, my city water pressure is indeed below the pump setting so the pump does run, but is it using city water or drawing from the fresh water tank? This is my first RV of any kind (2022 Montana 3931) so is a learning curve.

I thought it was a hypothetical question. You should not have your pump turned on when you are connected to city water. You are just wearing it out for no reason.

Yes it was hypothetical. What I didnt mention is that we are actually connected to well water at 40 psi and the flow at faucets, etc is puny unless pump is on. Pressure at faucets with pump off is ok for two seconds and then reduces to about half-flow; hence we leave pump on and pressure is good. But I was wondering if it is then using fresh water.

Well, in some CG the pressure is low so when showering I turn the pump on for a better shower. Usually have a full tank anyway

Got it, thanks for the explanation. Yes, in that case, you are using some of your on board fresh water.

When the pump runs, it’s pulling water from the tank. The tank line is the only source of water to feed the pump.

If your city water pressure is too low, you should fill your fresh water tank and use it with your water pump to get higher water pressure. When/ If you don’t need higher water pressure use the city water, or you can end up using both but make sure not to overfill your fresh water tank. It will send the overflow out your overflow hose on your tank and dump it on the ground.
