Hitch Height Opinions

Currently have just over 7 ½" clearance above our bedrails. Does this look look like too much upward rake? Our B&W Companion hitch is in its lowest possible configuration. If the amount of nose high rake is too excessive, then I'd have to raise the Road Armor hitch one set of holes which looks to be 2 ½ full inches. I could raise the Companion hitch afterwards if I wind up with insufficient clearance. Do most of you shoot for 6" of clearance above your bedrails? Looking for several pros / cons opinions here. Thanks in advance!

Looks fine to me. Actually, looking at the bottom of the rig it looks a little lower in front. I think most aim for 5-8 inches.

I left my companion alone and had the pin box raised the one available bolt setting. I am riding just under 16ft. at the front a/c.

Are you sure that you're just under 16 ft?

Good catch, I should have said I was just under 14 ft at the front a/c. Measured with the special measuring stick in the service bay of a dealer while hitched up.

I shoot for a 6" gap but you do look level to me... I'd be nervous with the 14' of height, there's a ton of bridges here in New England that are right at 14' which is the minimum bridge height for US highways. I would measure again to make sure your right and try and knock a few inches off for safety.

Thanks for the replies. I swear the fiver looked way more unlevel in person, but the photo seems to tell a different story. Next time the DW wants to make a grocery stop during our travels I'll try measuring the frame height underneath at both ends. Have to agree with the comments that it looks pretty level in the photos. Might be time for another set of eyeglasses.

Get me a new pair also as it looked nose high to me. A 4 foot level on the bottom of your bedroom slide will tell you the same thing as measuring.

Dang - thanks! That is a lot better suggestion than me taking bottom of the fram measurements in a parking lot.....

Remember that your 5er also has the drop frame in the front, which creates more belly storage. That will also throw your eye off when sight-lining your rig for level. Ground clearance will be less in the front than in the rear.
