Travel Route 301

Has anyone had experience traveling US Rt 301 between Ocala and Jacksonville? Is it recommended as a time saver vs Rt 40 to Daytona Beach?

We have pulled Monty on portions of it 3 different times this winter. I prefer it over using I-4 to travel st Augie to Tampa and ft Myers north to 95. I hate I-4, too crowded, too fast, too much construction and tolls besides. There were a couple of slow downs near Citra, other than that, pretty good.

We agree with MandK. We traveled that I-4 road towing our boat (36' coupler to transom and over 10K lbs on the trailer) and never again! When i brought the empty boat trailer back north I used 301 from Ocala and saved myself a little stress.

We have a place in Keystone Heights now and we traveled to/from NC several times towing cargo trailer to get our storage units emptied and use 301 all the way to 95 well north of JAX (it becomes 200/301 north of I-10). I hate to share this because the section from I-10 to 95 feels like our private road. Most GPS take folks off of 301 at I-10 to wingle over around JAX to 95, the 200/301 route is only a couple minutes longer until one traffic hiccup and the 200/301 is faster (not seen traffic. Much less a hiccup on 200/301).

Took it 3 weeks ago from Ocala to I-10. Other than the I-10 interchange being under construction, all was good!

At that I-10 interchange the 301 (northbound) right lane is usually crowded with folks going east on 10 and we use the left lane (usually empty) to keep going on 301/200.

Just watch your speed!!! The State Police are hiding everywhere in parking lots in the small towns for example!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with everyone. Have taken it several times. Actually quite easy with cruise control on to avoid any chance of speeding. Only other word of caution is that if you do it during love bug season your unit will get plastered! Sounds like hail hitting and hard to get off. Someone even stole all the windshield washing tools from one of the gas stations evidently so they could wipe down more often. That "bugged" me.

Definitely stay on 301 to Callahan. At the light where it turns north stay straight on FL 200 to I-95. Much less stressful than interstate & bonus is plenty of parking lots along route for breaks if needed. May not be the fastest but I gave up racing when I hooked 15K pounds to my truck.
Safe travels.

I agree with everyone here . Traveled it many times. There is a new Bypass for Stark too which is very helpful.
