landing legs
Camping in Birmingham Alabama, can't raise the jacks high enough to get it off the truck. The clutch on the motor starts slipping. Tried to lub the jacks, no luck. can't manually raise the rv, turns too hard. Any advice would be appreciated.

Is it aways slipping? or just after they've been extended part way down? If the later, can't you use some blocks or the extensions (if you have them) to raise enough to get off the TV? I can't be much more help, as we did away with those when we added the Level-Up System.

Slips after extending to the most weight with and without blocks under legs.

When it slips you can see the drive shaft slip. You can turn it with crank but is extremely difficult. Turns easy until a lot of weight on jack.

The trailer is a '94. Is it possible the bevel gears as seen in John's link are worn and need replacing? Were they working fine until recently?

Was working fine until this trip. Rebuilt gears on drivers side about a year ago. Had a broken pin. Took top covers off and watched with mirror on both side. No slippage except clutch in drive motor unit. Very difficult to turn with crank at this this time.

I would guess a sprung leg or burred screw on one of the legs.

I had similar problems. One solution is use your wheel jack(s) and raise the trailer a bit and then run the landing gear a little and repeat. By taking weight off the landing gear, it is able to extend. (If the problem is the clutch and not a bad stripped gears.
When I had the problem it was pouring down rain and I had to get the Monty to the dealer to fix it. That was fun!! Of course it took 2 over night shippings of the motor since they couldn't figure out what motor to send.

Had the same problem turn out to be the gear in the leg on motor side had to replace the leg. We could use it if the wife would press the down swith while I used the hand crank and help it along so we could get unhock till we could get to a place to get it fix.

Thanks for the input. Will have to wait till I get home to find out whats wrong. Have arranged for rental car at next campground. Will post what I find.

After having a similar problem, I always take along two hydraulic jacks. Since I purchased them, I have never needed them again. Some times I think these Montys know how to make you spend money. LOL, Good Luck, Larry PS If you should decide to use Hyds. be sure to pull pins and let feet go down as often as you gain a hole and never leave the weight on the hyd. jacks while parked (safety).

I had to have the left leg replaced this year as the gear box inside the front stripped the gears. Had to put to gear boxes on until they figured out what was wrong

RapidRobert, I had a similiar problem in Oct when I came South. We discovered that the side gear in the driver's side leg was stripped when raising the 5er off the tow vehicle. Lippert really stood at the plate and sent a new leg. Lot of folks having this problem.. Good luck....

Just got off the phone with Venture. They couldn't pin the problem down to a specific cause. After discussing it with them I decided to upgrade to two drive motors and replace every thing in the landing legs. I was surprised, they are selling me two drive legs, two drive motors, two gear boxes and two switch and cable assembles for $500 dollars plus shipping. When I was considering just replacing the one drive motor and gear box it would of been $175 plus shipping. I decided that as old as the unit is to ensure that the problem is fixed for the long haul.

Good move Robert, get rid of the immediate problem and take care of any future problems hopefully. Nothing more aggravating than a problem at the cg when you get there or get ready to leave.

Well I got all the parts and have installed the 2 switchs and wire assemblies. Have installed the left landing leg, gear box and motor. The right leg is another matter. As I am uprading to dual motors the right side of my trailer does not have the opening for the gear box and motor to drive it. When it had only one drive motor all it needed was about a one inch diameter hole for the drive shaft. It now needs an opening about 7"by 6" inches. I cut the opening yesterday, what a job! Tomorrow I can finish installing the right hand jack assembly. I also have to move the propane regulator. Since it's out of the trailer I'm going to replace all the rubber hoses while I'm at it. Hoses seem to be getting very stiff.

Job done, both jacks and drive motors installed. Works fine. If you have an older trailer like mine you might want to check the propane hoses. I didn't realize how bad mine were till I compared them to the new ones.
