Arnold AFB FAMCAMP, TN

Quick report on Arnold AFB, near Tullahoma, TN. (SE corner of the State). Beautiful lakeside location, far away from any traffic or noises. Boat dock right there.

Sites are a bit small and close together, but minimally adequate. Gravel roads in the CG, sites are in fairly heavy tree area. Satellite wouldn't work due to the trees from our site, some others seem to be OK, but 4 good channels via the roof antenna.

Recently upgraded sites from 20 amp to 30 amp electricity service. No 50 amp.

One dump site for the CG, on the way out. They allow galley and gray tanks to be drained, through a hose, directly onto the ground. Only second time in 3 years I've seen that anywhere, a "first" on a Military Base

Base facilities are about 15 min away, and very limited....small BX/Commissary. Local area (Winchester, Estill Springs, Tullahoma) a all 20-30 min away, and somewhat limited. Haven't found a Home Depot or Lowes yet. Wal-Mart and one Kroger are about 20 min away in Decherd, on the way to Winchester...but, what the heck, this is "camping", not urban touring!!

Considering military FAMCAMPS, one to ten, I give them a 7.

Beautiful lake!!

Best,

That's a new one for me. I've never heard of Arnold AFB. Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the information. I keep a log of the places that you have been. We seldom use the base facilities as we belong to several discount camping memberships and it fills the need. Saying that, it never hurts to keep track of the good sites. Thanks again.

Thanks for the Info on Arnold. We've been talking about trying to get to TN (loved driving through there during our PCS from VA to NM...sure wish we had our montana back in those days!).

Sadly, we were planning to hit Savannah over Columbus Day weekend and Tampa during Veteran's Day weekend, but Dave is TDY right now and we'll be missing both of these holidays. I'll be TDY Jan-Feb and then again Mar-Sep. We try to justify keeping the monty, but the justification is getting more and more difficult.

In the meantime, as we envy those who have well earned their retirement years, keep the FamCamp tips coming, they are very helpful!
