Alert - oil for diesels in short supply

While in Fl (north of Tampa), I needed to get the oil changed in TV before heading north for spring. I stopped in a local oil change shop and was informed that oil for diesels was in short supply and that if I wanted my oil changed, I needed to go get my own oil. Off I went to AutoZone, they were out and had been out. AZ sent me (after calling ahead) to an O'Reilly. They had just enough of one grade I could use.

Heads up. Forewarning.

I had heard the same thing many times recently. I went into a Walmart in Ft Myers area and there was 8 or 10 jugs of motor craft super duty 10-30 diesel on the shelf so I bought 3 jugs, enough to an oil change when I get back north. They did not have the filter though. Found that down the street at auto zone. It’s hit and miss I guess.

Low Diesel oil supplies in Boise, Idaho as well.. I dont use 10w-30W .. noit a Ford... GMC .. it uses 15w-40w instead...

Autozone, Oreillys, NAPA, all out or only a quart or two... I use 2 1/2 gallons

I ordered online and had it shipped to the house

Do all my own work..

I just ordered 12 gallons of Rotella T6 on Amazon along with all the filters for 3 oil changes in my RAM. I got it in less then a week. The oil has increased $5/gal from last time I ordered it, about 9 months ago.

So I see Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic 5W-40 Diesel Engine Oil is available on Amazon. It says compared to (15W-40 oils) $79.99 ($0.21 / Fl Oz)

In stock.

Sadly the short supply of diesel oil warning is not new news here in the midwest. Rotella, Mobil, and Motorcraft have been in short supply since last fall out here. Like said, it's hit and miss. Oil filters for the 6.7 are hit and miss as well. Anymore when I see the oil I need, even if it is just one 5-quart jug, I buy it. Get ready to get ready, it isn't going to get any better anytime soon.

Just picked up 4 jugs at Walmart

Wisconsin has plenty of Rotella T6 15w40
$23.95 Walmart
$29.99 at Fleet Farm
They both had plenty on the shelf

T6 5W40 is what is specified for heavy duty use on my 6.7. I consider towing my fiver heavy duty use. If warm weather, T 6 15W40 if I cannot find 5W40.

Resellers are going to be buying up all they can and marking it up considerably and selling on line.

I was at Home Depot two weeks ago and noticed they had 3 Gallons of 5w40 T6 so I bought them. I try to keep 1 service ahead in stock on oil and all filters but it’s getting harder to do. I re upped my subscription to Amsoil for that just in case, so far they haven’t been affected.

While in Fla I did the same thing through Walmart. They had a Mopar filter (Ram) and 10-40 diesel oil. Had it shipped home so when we get there we should be set

This is going to turn out like the DEF scare of a couple months ago. A non issue.
