Awning adjustment

When our awning retracts the arm on the one side catches the vertical upright and won’t sit flush so I have to get on a ladder and push it over 1/8” for it to completely retract flush. How do you adjust for this?

The usual is the awning has moved on the roller or at the wall due to the wind. I used to get on a ladder, lift the roller to get some slack and try to wrestle the awning back to where it rolls up straight. Which way to get it straight you ask? I forget exactly. There are previous Posts on this but I think (be careful here) that you can see where the awning doesn't roll up straight. Move the awning, on the roller towards the direction it is rolling (make sense?). Once adjusted, use a Sharpie to mark where the ends should be in case it moves again.

A better solution was shown to me in Lake Havasu by the Shade Pro awning installer. Slide the awning in the channel attached to the body of the RV. It slides pretty easily. Roll the awning in and out to check, and then adjust as necessary. Once it is aligned, run a small Tek screw through the binding and the channel on each end to keep it from moving again.

Lastly, for a small offset of 1/8" I just lean on the arm while it is being retracted.

Ours will sometimes do the same thing but other times will retract perfectly. It's usually just an issue of the fabric rolling up just a little out of kilter. Sometimes just fully extending it and starting again can fix it.

If mine needs a little help I find that I can use a broom handle to apply just a little pressure up high on the front arm to make sure it aligns correctly. Then I can play with the rear one by standing on my step. I can usually get ours to seat without a lot of effort by just having DW bump it in and out as needed without unseating the front arm while I lightly push or pull on the rear arm.

you might want to look at where the shock attaches, there are spacer that keep it aligned in center of the channel, I had one missing causing it not to align when retracted.

Mine has the set screws in the awning track on the on the camper itself. Mine slides ever so slightly... on the roller.

And yes, it takes only a fraction for the arms to be off. Uneven shrinkage of the awning fabric is another cause. They do shrink over time. The secret is to pull and tug the awning on the roller to get it to line up.

What I haven't quite figured out on mine is, why one arm snaps in place perfect and the other needs just a little extra push to snap in place. Both my front and back awnings are doing this now. So, when one arm is perfect, the other is off. This just started in the last years. That's why I think it's because of uneven shrinkage.
