That happened on my first travel trailer. It was a Dutchmen Sport (Thus my user name)....
The tail light had 2 plastic tabs that hung down, and that's where the license plate attached. Both tabs broke off and yes, like you, I lost my license plate.
DMV got me a new plate, which cost, of course, but at least it wasn't difficult. As far as the license plate holder, I considered all kinds of options, and the only real solution was to simply purchase another tail light with the tabs on it, with the light for the license plate.
I used my purchasing dealership, and they had replacement lights, identical. I think back then, every trailer on the road used the same identical one.
My current camper (Montana), has one very similar to the one from a couple decades ago. They haven't changed that much. Those little tabs seem like they are not that strong, made of plastic, and I wonder about them being brittle and breaking. So, I do check mine often.
Again, the only way to fix it, is to replace the entire light with a new one. Check with your dealership parts department. That's what they are there for.
