W. Heater elec element wiring

replacing electric element in w heater and have question on connecting wires. Have white and black wires and assume white is hot and black is ground. The replacement element has no indication on which one connects to which on it . Some one said it doesn't matter! Need your advice!

Black is the hot wire and wire is a neutral, it does not matter which element fastener to put them on.

It doesn’t matter which place either wire goes.

Well, have looked at videos and the only question is do you "bend" the gas line or unhook it. On my heater doesn't seem to be room to remove the gas line from what I think is the regulator. Bending it carefully may work but nervous about that. Since working with both gas and electricity want my ducks in a row before starting. If need be will just wait Any more advice will be appreciated and thanks for what you guys have given thus far.

I'm guessing you need room to get to the element so it can be replaced. Just disconnect the line from the control valve and move it enough so you can get to the element. The regulator is what is at the propane cylinders and no more regulation is needed. I'm sure you already know that the valves on the propane cylinders should both be turned off before removing the propane line.
