Maxxair Vents prepped for covers?

We have a Montana 3230CK on order. Do the MaxxAir vents come prepped for the MaxxAir II covers?

Yes, they do come prepped. We added covers this summer and love them.

Nice choice on the 3230CK, it looks gorgeous!

The fans on my Montana, a 3931FB, were model 4951KS and the recommended cover was the Fan Mate https://www.airxcel.com/docs/default...rsn=5e8006b_10

Installed with the clips that were supplied in about 10 minutes for each fan. I did all the fans, same as I have done for the last three RVs.

wed, here is the response that I received from the manufacturer, if your setup is the same as mine ...

The fan mate is the recommended cover for a power vent like your 4951KS fans. It will help with the splash as well, and if the wind did happen to blow the splash through the louvers the rain sensor would still close the lid. As far as mounting goes I have included the installation instructions on the link below.

https://www.airxcel.com/docs/default...rsn=5e8006b_10

Thanks
Dale

Great info! I was thinking the MaxxAir II covers is what I needed. Thanks for the feedback.

When I purchased my 2020 3931fb, I specifically asked camping world if I needed these vent covers. I was told that they are not needed as they would make the unit to tall. Right now it is listen at 13’6”.

After reading this thread, I just wondering what are the benefits to these. I not against them but the dealer told me one thing and this thread is suggesting something different.

Just wondering what the group thinks. I am somewhat new to being an RV owner.

Thanks in advance.

In our case, the fan is useless when raining or snowing since the rain sensor will close it and prevent it from opening. The cover is no higher than the Air Conditioner on our rig, so it didn't add height to ours. We are also listed at 13'6". I did measure the height when hitched since it rides a bit nose high. I'm actually at 13' 71/2" on the front AC (highest point). Usually not a problem since most highways and interstates are at least 14' clearance, but it's good to know exactly. The specs from Keystone don't tell the whole story since it will vary when towing and hitched to your truck.

Not sure why your dealer would tell you that. We installed ours for the simple reason of using the fan vent when it's raining outside and feeling very hot/humid inside.

Has anyone used the Fan Mate cover in Smoke - that lets some light thru the cover? Not sure the little bit of light is worth the upcharge for Smoke. MaxxAir is really proud of their Smoke color (I've found them from $77-$119 online, compared to about $55 for black).

Forestville, We chose the MaxxAir II covers in black. They are no higher than the A/C units, and were a perfect fit.

CW giving bad advice? Never!

Just scale the ladder and all of your vents with covers will be shorter than the AC units.

I have teh smoke. yeah they wre pricey. But I like them

I, too, was originally concerned about the extra height until I measured and found out that one of the two air conditioner hoods would remain the tallest point. (My storage locker has 14' garage doors and a 1 1/2 inch lip going into it.) An extra reason that I found to purchase them was that by the time the fan's rain sensor picked up the moisture and automatically closed the vent I already had a few drips of water on the floor below (especially if the wind was blowing in the wrong direction). And I get no wind flapping as you will without the cover. For esthetic reasons, given the color of both the rig and the other roof vents/hoods, I went with black - also helps dim out the RV park's road lights at night. (Not to mention the even brighter street lamps in rest areas, etc.)

AIRXCEL web site

Earlier, I posted the response that I received from the manufacturer recommending the FanMate over the Maxxair 2. Since others have suggested that they used the Maxxair 2 without issue, me being me, went back through my original research which prompted me to originally contact the manufacturer. As an example, this is from AIRXCEL's website for the Maxxair 2: "Can be safely installed over high powered RV ventilator fans; however our FANMATE® is specifically designed for this application allowing higher air flow from your existing ventilator fan." I also found a few reviews for the Maxxair 2 that suggested that the fan lid scrapes on one side or the other, etc. Having had a similar problem on one of my previous RVs (height restriction, not side clearance), I wanted to avoid the possibility - and I mean only a possibility - of having to return three of them. As you can probably tell from my posts, I almost always turn to the source if I am at all unsure on the answer. Heck, I even contacted the manufacturer of the toilets before purchasing the soft close toilet seats!

One of the first things I did was install the Fanmate covers in black for the same reason others have already said. Not cheap but definitely worth having. Nice to be able to have the vents open on a rainy day. They are shorter than the AC units.
