Refridgerator fan blocked?

Two Questions
1) I’m adding a cooling fan to the lower portion of fridge to aid in cooling,I’m planning on tying into factory fans behind freezer has anyone tried this?

2) I included a picture of upper factory fans is the board used for directing air to coils or did factory forget to cut out? My guess it directs air to coil.

The board is as you guessed. It directs air through the fins. Air absolutely must pass through those fins and out the vent above them.

I added fans to the bottom of our unit with a thermal snap switch rated at a lower setting than the existing fans. They turn on sooner, move more air and run much quieter. I rarely hear the factory fans kick on at all after adding the others. (Only the hottest most humid days while running on propane.)

Also make sure the rising air is exiting out the vent above the fins. I added baffling from thin metal roof flashing to direct air out the vent and keep from trapping hot air above the fins. Our fridge now constantly runs in the mid and upper 30's. I had to turn down the setting to keep from freezing.

Great tips!

Thank you Creeker for the Great info and your fast response.
Snap switch is what I was looking for and I also found the 12 volt block that the existing fans are wired into, project is a snap now...no pun intended!

Do you happen to know what temp the existing fans turn on?

If your refrig is the Dometic 1350 series like ours the switch closes at 149° and opens at 122°.

Much too hot before kicking the fans on in my opinion. If I remember correctly the switch I used closes at 105° or 115°. You can purchase them in many different temp ranges.
