Awning creeping out while driving

Our awning started creeping out while we were driving. First time it came out about 3 inches and a plastic piece about 2”x2’ dropped out. Thought maybe we didn’t cinch up before taking off. But second trip down the road it started to come out again.
Any suggestions on how to tighten adjustment to stop creeping or other ideas?

I think the plastic piece that came off is designed to prevent the awning from unrolling. Do you have awnings on your slide out so you can see how this plastic piece works? You probably can see a video on the Internet which will explain the function of this plastic piece.

While you don't show the vintage of your trailer, can assume that it's an electric awning.

If that piece of plastic is black and came from the front awning arm, it's most likely a cover for the wiring. Ours came off in Virginia along I-81 but I was able to retrieve it

As far as creep, one end of the roller springs may have 'lost' tension by popping out of the retainer or even broken. Not a fun repair.

If the trailer has a manual awning, the locking lever pawl may have failed in which case you can try to find a replacement or do a net search for an awning lock: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffsb&q=RV+...ages&ia=images.

Although we have never had that happen we do bungy the awning arms so they can not open while in travel.

I used Velco straps on our way long gone Kountry Aire after a major billow and had to replace the material after ithe material stretched
