Question Need to replace interior Bathroom and Closet Door Trim

I have several pieces of interior door trim I need to replace in our 3402 RL Montana Big Sky, Hickory Edition. Can anyone tell me where I might purchase matching trim? I have looked at usual places like Home Depot and Lowes, but see nothing that comes close to matching the profile or size. I have not contacted Keystone, because they usually refer you to a dealer and I would prefer to deal with the supplier directly rather than have to put up with the usual dealer runaround. Any thoughts as to a source? Although much of the cabinet work in the Big Sky is real wood the door trim pieces are pressed fiber wrapped in vynil with printed woodgrain. It would be hard to match unless I can buy it from the supplier or manufacturer.
Thanks for any help.

Either go to a Montana dealer or contact Trekwood. They are the only ones who will have what you are looking for.

This is the only thing listed on Trekwood, no pictures, but the only door trim they show, at least for 2012. https://www.trekwood.com/products/10...6-Passage-Door

Thanks for the information. Looks like I may have to give a dealer a try.

I replaced mine with the foam/resin trim from Lowe's or home depot, can't remember which. It was an almost perfect match in both color and profile. I replaced all the trim on both sides of both of our doors as well as the trim behind the toilet due to the "flood-o-matic" tetford doing its thing.

Thumbs up

could you post a pic of the material you used? I will check with Lowes again. If I can still get it, that would be fantastic. Was the removal and replacement difficult? Any hints at ease of removal ? Did you use nails to install the new?

Thanks very much for the reply.

Just posted a reply to your questions to have them lost when the site logged me out when I posted the reply. If I can figure out how to post a photo to this new forum website, I will post a photo. A later update to my 2013 trailer was putting a door on the kitchen island where the built in vacuum used to be. For that I used minwax pecan express color wiping stain and finish in a six oz tube. This was a close match to the "muddy brown" stain keystone used in my model year fifth wheel. The molding in the bath may have been called gunstock, a slight reddish brown tone that worked in the bath job.

Jim, sent you an email with picture as that is much less cryptic than posting photos on the forum. Evening when I searched for posting photos, I got a list of things like waxing your montana, etc. Not impressed...

I sent you a PM, but for anyone else, there are instructions for posting photos. It is pretty easy.

There is a post "Forum Posting 101 and Account Help" in the "Forum Help | Announcements | Suggestion Box" sub-forum which has a ton of informative information re the MOC.

Go to http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=70323 and read posts #8 and #25.

I've had good success with Trekwood for some trim items. In a couple of cases there was no picture so I called them, told them what I was looking for and e-mailed a picture. They got right back to me with a part number for the correct item.

I've been thinking about replacing some of my high traffic area trim with real wood.

Does any one know where to find matching stain colors?

You need to take a piece of the real wood trim you are intending to use along with the original stuff you are replacing, to a good paint store where they can experiment with their available stains and they should be able to mix you a stain that will be very close. You also need to make a decision on what clear finish you want because that will also affect what the final color will be.

If you are trying to match trim profile you can make it yourself. We have an older sticks and bricks and wanted to match the trim and baseboard with a nicer wood but same profile. I own a Jet thickness planner/moulder and purchased cutters for it from a local woodworkers shop. I just had to bring a sample of the wood to show them what shape the cutter needed to produce and they made me a new set. This is not something you would purchase to cut a couple pieces of wood as the planner and cutters are expensive. But find a cabinet maker who cuts his own trim or a hobby woodworker who can do it and maybe they can get the cutters to make your trim.

From what I see on the trim on our doors on our 2010 hickory edition, you could come awful close to making a similar shape with an angle cut on a table saw and a round over bit on a router or even a round over hand plane. Our trim has a dimple or recess in the center which could also be done with a router or hand plane and a little sanding. Tedious work but doable.

I would still check with your local Montana Dealer that might have some surplus sitting in their shop.
