Do you store under cover?

In anticipation for buying a 5th wheeler next year we had about 25 trees removed so I can tow the trailer behind our workshop then loop around onto our driveway. This gives me a straight shot to back up the trailer then pull straight out when we leave.
Do you folks store you trailer under cover? To build a 20x50 car port would cost about $10k so I would like to avoid it if possible.

We store ours in a pole barn that never gets below 45*. Don’t have to winterize it that way. Just open the low point drains & all the water faucets, then drain the water heater & leave the plug out. No pink stuff for us.

Before we went full time we always stored it outside in the Kansas winter without any issues. Now they are never undercover ever.

We have a medal carport, one of the cheap carports 16 x 42? we keep ours under. I think I have less than $5000 in it. I built a wooden frame for the bottom and had the shed attached to it. It ain’t much but it works.
The motor home is under it now. It’s 12 years old and still looks like new.

My first trailer was a Thor Jazz 5th. wheel and it was stored outside. Being outside all the time, it just gets beat on from the elements. With this new Montana, I have it stored inside and it's a night and day difference when I pick it up. The roof, tires and entire rig stays amazingly clean. It costs me $385.00 a month for the indoor storage. The location looks like two huge aircraft hangers. I just drop it off and they use a forklift to put it away. The location does all warranty work, paint, detailing, charge batteries and filling the propane tanks. I give a two days heads up when I need it, and there it is ready to go.

We store indoors for $175 per month. The unit still looks new. If you care about preserving it then out of the weather is the way to go. If not, then save your money.

Under cover. Sun will trash your rig faster than anything else.

We live in AZ and the sun's deterioration on an RV is an issue here. Our Montana is under cover in an RV yard, we also have power and keep the batteries charged.

I have a 42' by 18' RV Port put up by Carolina Carports ... it was no where near $10,000 ... it wasn't even $5000. Open ends, but siding all the way down on the sides ... gravel floor with concrete pads for tires. However that was 7 years ago.

Our 2011 unit has lived under cover since new. !st owner kept it covered. I purchased it in Oct 2015 and it has lived in our 40x42 pole barn since then.

It still looks like brand new for a 10 year old unit. Decals are perfect and the gel coat shines like glass.

Storing an RV undercover

We store everything that's portable, indoors; period. All of my motorized equipment is stored in a heated shed and my non-motorized in a non-heated shed. After I retired, my wife and I decided to purchase a Montana and spend winters in FL. After we'd get back home in spring, I would take our Monty to a storage facility for $200/mo., which was crazy expensive. That lasted two years, then I decided to build my own dedicated steel shed with a concrete floor. It has a 14'x14' garage door on each end. When they're closed, it's sealed, therefore; no birds or rodents and it's easy to drive thru. I realize, not everyone has the ability or the space to build such a shed, but there's no question that investments will deteriorate (and depreciate) much faster, the longer they are exposed to the elements and that includes critters. When we leave for FL each year in Nov., I lease out the space to another couple with a 5th wheel for the winter. It works out great.

We Use a Cover but

This year we were not able to take the 5ver out so I covered it. I think it is worthwhile but if I had the option to put up some sort of carport or building that is what is would do. Covers are a pain to put on or take off and not a super safe operation.

Covered or inside

I don't know why anybody would think having their trailer sit out in the winter with snow and ice on the roof would be a good idea. the freeze/thaw process with moisture and ice working on the seams is just a problem waiting to happen. I guess if you are willing to re-seal everything each spring, or trade it off every 3 or 4 years, there may be no problem.

I think for most people it's just a matter of necessity as to why their units isits out
Most people either don't have or are not willing to spend money on a structure to cover it.
Nor are they willing to spend hundreds of dollars a month for indoor storage

As for using a cover to me that would be a royal pain in the ass and not worth the effort. Kind of like putting a condom on King Kong

Our solution to the problems was to go to AZ or Florida for the winter months.

You're really can't win no matter what you do. In Florida and Arizona the sun will beat your camper to a slow death
