Hook up at an Extreme Angle?

We have a 2014 3100RL Montana with Mor/ride RPB72-1116 king pin with a Demco Autoslide 18K 5th wheel hitch.


Last campsite we had to unhook at an 25 to 35 degree angle – the first time for us. When we tried to re-hook we had difficulty connecting the hitch. Any suggestions or tips on how to hook up at an extreme angle?

If your angle (left/right) is off quite a bit, maybe put leving blocks under the trailer tires as you back it into its final spot.
If your already detached and need to hook up, maybe put leveling block under your rear truck tires to tilt it over to the same angle.

I am thinking it wasn't the level of the RV that was off 25+ degrees (left/right balance) but rather the angle of attack by the hitch to the pin. I don't have an auto-slide hitch but I thought only the Pull-Rite has an issue with having to hook up in an almost straight line. All others should slide in regardless of the angle of attack assuming the truck and RV are close to level (no big slopes). I have hooked up at almost 90 degrees but you do have to watch that the truck tailgate doesn't hit the garage door on the RV.

Good luck!! The only drawback with the Demco auto slide is you have to be within a few degrees of straight. I've been there done that. I spent a hour one time. There is a geometry to it and it can be done but don't ask me how.

I also have a Demco slider, and previously had a Pullrite. Inability to hook up to a slider at an extreme angle is typical and cannot be fixed except by getting straighter.
