You have basically gained a couple extra tires , and of course an increase in payload . But the same truck, wheelbase, bed length etc .IMO the MC is the best of two worlds ,one wanting a short bed ,and one wanting a dually . I even like the looks of the DRW MC, but I have no need for a dually , or for the matter a long bed .
PSFORD99, What are you towing ? (fill out your sig so others will know)

Its all about the #s. If you can stay within ALL legal weight limits with a SRW have at it. There are many that chose to bury their head in the sand and pretend they are within ALL the #s.

My present fifth wheel is 15,500 GVWR, same as my previous fifth wheel, both towed with the two 1 ton SRW mentioned above. No desire here to debate weights, or who is under or over their weight ratings. I know what my weights are ,and I am comfortable with them, and yes I have had at it with those two trucks , and two fifth wheels for 13 years.

The GVW on my trailer is about the same as yours, but my previous MC was an '06 2500 and was significantly over the GVWR by about 2k lbs.
Although I had modified the truck to "handle" the weight (power enhancements, gearing swap, suspension upgrades), I was less and less comfortable knowing I was over the rated limits on the truck.
But the biggest factor (for ME) is the substantial improvement in the stability of the dually, especially on winding or rough (or both) roads.
I see many SRW trucks (3/4 and 1 ton) that I'm quite sure are over their ratings...5ers in the 40 ft. range, triple axle toy haulers etc.
NOT saying you are in that category of course...in fact I'm pretty sure you are not based on your obvious knowledge and experience.

Never experienced any stability issues ,but as said this 2014 Megacab short bed 3500, is more stabile to me then my old Superduty 350 short bed. Both got the job done nicely.

To me the tire capacity is the limiting factor on a SRW , my 2014 6.7 cummins will tow the same weight as that 2014 long bed dually, but it can't haul it. I'm comfortable if I am within my tire weight ratings, that being the pin weight, and truck weight on those rear tires.

I can sum up diesel in 1 word torque. The numbers may be similar but when it comes to towing and going up hill diesels are the best way to go. I just added a titan in bed 50gal transfer tank, so fully loaded I’m carrying 86 gal. That with the EFS fuel card for diesel great combination.
