Some do's and don'ts with new flooring

Our 2955 carpet and flooring in the kitchen,,along with the bathroom is showing age??? We'd like to hear the positives and negitives you've encountered when changing out flooring to the new "planking" alternatives. Your ideas of colours, thickness, to glue or float the planks,,what you did for the slides and the problems encountered with the slight overhang when the slides are in?? How about weight,,,is that a concern?? How easy did you find cutting the planking to fit critical areas?? All suggestions welcome
We appreciate all your suggestions---Thanks,,Ron and Mickey
