Hydraulic Leveling

So, we have been in the 5th wheel for a few consecutive days now. We have found that when we first level the unit, it is solid and stable, but after a day or two, it gets a spongy, shaky feel to it that makes it seem like you are on a boat. The system says it is still level, and an iPhone level on the floor says it is level. Trying to auto level again doesn't work since the system shows level already. I have to manually retract the rear jacks and then rerun the auto level. Then the process starts over again. Any idea how to keep it from getting the shaky feeling?

I’d start by checking your blocking/ground under the jacks, may be settling differentially under the weight if not on a concrete pad. If the jacks are leaking by internally sometimes you can hear them creaking. New unit I suppose could have a little air in the system but I would think you would see the issue prior to a few days if it was air. Next time it happens instead of releveling, just hit the rear jacks for a quick second to redistribute the weight and see if it improves. If it does, might be one or two of them having the ground settling under them. My 2 cents.

How far do the jacks come out to get level? Sometimes when the jacks are extended pretty far, the camper will get shaky. The shorter the stroke, the more stable it will be. I built pads using 4x4 and 2x4 boards to shorten the stroke on our jacks. Now they only extend about 3 inches on a relatively level site. Made a world of difference when walking around.
I will also add that I moved my jacks up as far as I could due to them dragging on an extreme slope at a site we frequent.

Agree completely. we do the same thing! Pain to carry extra blocks but worth itl

There's always a bit of shaking going on. I find that I occasionally have to re-level after a week or so, which I consider normal.

Thanks for the feedback! I did use some leveling blocks on a site with a lot of slope to keep the stroke shorter, but the current site we are on is fairly level. I have the snap pads on the jacks and the leveling blocks are smaller than the pads. I didn't use the blocks this time as I figured the larger pads would be better than the smaller blocks. If this is typical for the system and I just need to relevel occasionally, it isn't difficult, just another item on the to do list.

Have you added the anti-stiction fluid to the hydraulic reservoir as recommended by LCI?
