Harpers Ferry, WVA KOA
Here is comments sent to corporate KOA
We recently spent the 4th of July weekend at the KOA in Harper's Ferry, W. Va. We had intended to stay 3 nights, Thursday through Saturday night, July 3-6.
On Thursday evening when pulling in and setting up we noticed a sewage smell as did the neighbors across the street whom eventually had a sewage overflow.
On Friday the site across from us had their sewage pipe overflow. It seems there was some kind of blockage and the campground shut down the water and came around telling everyone not to use there dump pipes.
The Campground employee’s had a relaxed attitude handling snakes bare handed and in my opinion poor coordination notifying campers not to dump their tanks. They placed two bales of hay at the edge of the black top where the raw sewage was flowing into the grassy tent camping area. To my knowledge no one below (in the tent camping area) was notified of the danger of the “water problem”.
They indicated everyone was notified but water was still flowing from up hill sites (through the sewer pipes) as the commercial plumbers started working on the problem at 3 PM Saturday
The front office was apologetic, and did give us a one day refund. I did not receive any refund for Saturday’s lack of use of the “full hookup”. I was restricted from using water and sewer.
My wife and I have been camping for 3 years and this does not leave a good KOA experience in our minds. I understand that the problem was not one of the campground owners making, and they did try to fix it, but there attempts were unsafe and showed a lack of concern for others.
My site was not big enough to handle my 35’ 5th wheel and to vehicle end to end. I ended up parking my trunk next to the awning.
My wife noticed the pool was dirty.
On Thursday night the ran out of bagged ice yet knew they were booked solid that weekend.
The idea of charging campers a $5 dollar fee to dump, even when they are staying there have convinced us that we have no desire to use this KOA again. Is this corporate policies of KOA in general.
We have not renewed our KOA card this year.
