2020 1 ton GMC

Hey All,

Has anyone here seen the new 2020 GMC 1 ton. WOW... That is one great looking truck and I heard that it now comes with a 10 speed transmission. I will bet that you can pull 25,000# LBS with that unit.

We saw one at the Montana dealership today and I was really taken with the looks of that truck. And of course the guy that had the truck had every option on this truck that they can put on the truck. It was nice.....

Any one here if you have one WOW your driving a Cadillac.....

I do have a question for you. Why did you go long bed SWD instead of dully. that trailer you have has to be 15,800# dry. I would think that kind of weight but i do know it is a 1 ton. Just asking why?

No, if I remember fully loaded to the max 16800 something right around there. We don’t full time, and have plenty of empty storage areas lol. The long bed is because we have 2 generator inverters under the cover. The wife was not a fan of the dually, got a smoking deal on this truck so went that route.

We had GMC bring there 2020s to the last national rally. They were great looking and both the 3/4 and one ton can pull just about anything.

I would love to take both the front end and rear end of the 2020 GMC and graft then to a 1973 GMC or Chevy. That would look really cool if done right.

If Ford or GM put the Cummins/Aisin powertrain in their trucks, it would be the ultimate tow vehicle. Premium fit and finish with bullet proof time tested power.

All three 2020 trucks are very capable. Go to TFL and watch videos of those trucks towing both up and down the Ike gauntlet. It is amazing what they can do. As for 2020 the winner was Ford by a landslide with the Dodge coming in second and the GM placing third. Totally different results from last year. Remember both GM and Ford have ten speed transmissions with Dodge still retaining the six speed. Good video to watch. Power, speed and braking are tested on these Ike towing tests.

I just noticed that the 3.42 rear end is the only one available with the duramax. Is that because of the 10 speed tranny?

I believe so. Towing 70-75 mph I’m right at 1500-1800 rpm. Tows great no putting it in M and finding the right gear uphill, the 10 speed is just put in D and go.

Do you know if they used the high output version of the Ram?

The 10 speed is a beast. I'm in the camp, just put it in "D", and let the tranny sort it out. There is a misconception that with that many gears it will be shifting constantly. It does, and will down shift on hills, but it does it one gear at a time, and is NOT noticeable at all. I find that it actually takes a pretty good hill to get down into the 6th gear range. Most small hills it either pulls in 10th, or only downshifts to 9th.

Very very usable power/tranny combo...

I love these comments!!

While I do agree that I do NOT like all of the Chevy trims on the front, we do love our High Country. I think that it's the best looking front end out of all of them. With that being said, even the "ugliest" Chevy front end today looks tons better than the 2003-2006 "cat-eye" versions. Those trucks were terrible in the front.

But for us, it doesn't matter what I think. It's mama's daily driver, and she absolutely loves the looks, and she loves that attention when people ask her about it. When I showed it to my wife back in the early 2019 when images first started coming out, she loved it then, before we ever saw one in person.

Another thing that you don't realize until you actually stand next to one is how big these things are. They are HUGE!, in all trims.

To each their own, I guess...

I have one towing my 2020 3761FL. What a pleasure. Once you get your brake gain adjusted correctly, braking is a dream also. Truck is awesome. Getting 19mpg unhooked on the road, about 10 to 12 hooked up loaded.
