Tennessee

We are planning on moving to TN by years end. Probably around Pigeon Forge, Sevierville area. Looking to spend a year or so in the area.
Have any of you spent long term in area or have any winter experiences there? I will be retiring by years end hopefully. Got any ideas pro or con?

DID I POST THIS QUESTION IN WRONG FORUM OR HAS NO ONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE IN LONG TERM CAMPING IN AREA??

Someone has to have been there in the winter, Owen. I would hope you're not going to be the first!

I bet Steve will be along to share his experiences with wintering in Kansas.

You've picked a great place to retire. Pigeon Forge is a beautiful place....and all that SHOPPING!

Well, I can tell you about wintering in Kansas City but know nothing about winter in the Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg area. We spent two months in Gatlinburg but it was from mid-March to mid-May of this year. One of the locals told me it doesn't get too bad there but I have no idea what that really means for someone staying there in a Montana. Sorry. If questions about how to keep the cold out and water lines from freezing, a bunch of us can help with that part.

You might consider searching for the chamber of commerce or visitors center and emailing them to ask about winter weather.

Have not camped long term in Pigeon Forge but being from Tenn. I have spent some time there. You couldn't have picked a nicer area to retire. Alot of beautifull campgrounds in the area. Check out the Sevierville area. There is alot less traffic and it is only a short distance from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. There are numerous campgrounds on Wears Valley road between P.F. and Townsend. The whole area is just beautifull. Going to be at the Riverside campground in Sevierville the weekend of Oct.14 and we are really looking forward to it. Winters are of course much milder than in the north but are probably more humid which sometimes makes it seem alot colder. We don't get as much ice and snow so we don't have much in the way of road crews or preperations for wintry conditions. So sometimes we don't travel much during those times. I would love to know more about winter camping myself as I like the cooler weather. Let us know how it goes. Maybe we will meet up some day.
