Yamaha Generator rack is finished
I finished the rack for the new Yamahas and gas tank. I made a template with 1x2s then cut 1 1/2 inch angle iron. That was welded and I used 5/8th round stock for the lock bars. short chains on either end are pad locked to the pad eyes on either side of the bed. Fairly easy design but wow was the steel expensive, about 120 dollars worth... there is room on either side of the 6 gallon tank for my composite propane tank and a 5 gallon gas can..

That looks like a nice job, but I would not worry bout someone stealing the generators, they'll be after the gas be sure to chain that tank down good... I am gonna do the same kinda thing but with 2 15 gallon round water tanks. Think I will just used treated lumber and not the steel. That sure is expensive for angle iron.

Thanks everybody, I just wish I could get my own MIG welder. So I wouldn't need to scrounge welding services from friends all the time. Hobart has a nice unit for about 350 but most of the others are in the 700 to 1200 range. With the 2 new generators I have plenty of juice to run it but I am rapidly running out of storage space..

ExNavydiver.... You are discounting yourself heavily. That setup that cost you $120 is worth more than that to someone like me who doesn't have the skills or tools to do that for myself!
That is a custom job that is valuable for its form, fit, security and function. Adding markup and someone with money would easily pay $800 to $1,000, so your price is a bargain! Then another few dollars by adding Ozz's refill technique and voila. The best of all worlds assuming you solve the aux fuel tank security.
Nice work on something that is at the top of the feature scale with most I've seen.
I also like the tool box you have at the front of your truck bed. It looks like the DeeZee low profile I have in my truck bed. That's where I currently travel with my dual EU2000s, pancake compressor, tools and bunch of other stuff.

Looks like a real professional job. Can I ask what your estimate of weight just for the rack would be? It would be good info for some of us who are close on the payload weight.

About 25 to 30 lbs, if I did it again I would give myself at least another 1/2 inch clearance between the the rack and bed sides. I have to tilt one end up to take it out.
