Ozz, I am getting ready to replace my 15 year old stick house unit for that very reason, Didn't know I had a problem until I was getting the unit serviced this past spring, AC works fine but heat exchanger has a hole in it.

Any brands that you would recommend?

Thanks
I'm not trying to step into Ozz'z territory, but I am firmly convinced that anyone who tries to sell you a Lennox is NOT your friend. We replaced our 40+ year old energy inefficient furnace about 10 years ago with a Lennox and any money we may have saved in efficiency has gone for repair bills. Even the service men feel sorry for us.

No problem, I am not much of a Lennox fan, buying parts from them is a nightmare, even getting a quote is a grind.
All brands have had a model, or design or two that didn't work out. It's just bad luck that a person end up with one.
I offer a 10 year warranty on my A/C units, if a compressor goes out in the 9th year, you get a brand new complete unit, of course that is just basically an insurance policy we charge for, but if I were a buyer, I would get it.
Service guys come and go, some are great, some are absolutely crooked, and/or worthless, so if you can fall back on a good corporate warranty, that is the way to go.
