Need your help..big time!

Arrived home from my parents tonight. Settled down in my recliner. Hear a "thunck" noise, followed by water running. Found my hot water was running through my shower head. (Turned itself on all by itself) The knob just spins around. Took off the "knob" but cannot figure how to go from there as it just spins when..when I try to get to the real hardware.

I turned off the water outside. Then turned off the breaker labeled "WH" inside.

My question. For tonight can I safely turn the water back on and use it for other purposes and not worry about the hot water heater blowing up now that the breaker is off? That is....if the breaker is labeled right. If not...What do you advise for tonight.

I went out to fill my fresh water tank (thinking I could use the pump) and found the water running into the groud. The little "knob" or whatever keeps the water in the tank... is gone. Must have lost it during my last trip to the dealer.

Any advice would be very appreciated.
