underbed storage

Somewhere there was a good descriptions of how the underbed storage was made bigger but I can't find it. Paul did it before and now can't remember just how he did it.CRS? Does that big board just lift out? i suppose there is some staple or screw holding it down.

There are two screws that hold the sheet of plywood in place. The piece can then be pulled up at the foot of the bed and slid out. I made one cut with a table saw to divide the sheet in half, then drilled two 7/8" holes in each piece at the center of both edges for finger pulls (instead of screwing handles on them) so they can slide flat onto each other, either way, for access to the space underneath. The space is not super usable, but good for some stuff that you don't use much, and you need to be careful where you put things so as not to interfere with the slide operation. You should run the slide in and out a few times with the boards removed and the bed lifted up, so you can see what is moving and where you should not put stuff.

Jan and Paul-- Check with Ozz, I think he was the one that did the mod on the bed some time back! It may be in his mods that he has listed!

Interesting, I just had mine out yesterday and was wondering about the same thing. I did run #10 wires from battery (fused of course) up through the hole with the hyd hoses to an inverter mounted on the closet side of bed. This is to operate my CPAP machine. Tried it out last night and it worked great.
While doing that I was amazed at the wasted space under the bed. Anything you put under there as mentioned must be carefully placed or it could be like a trash compactor.

I did the same as KTManiac except I used cabinet handles I had laying around instead of the finger holes. I did this after seeing what Ozz had done with his. Just don't put anything outside the rails that will catch on the side upright supports. You have all the space back to where the floor rises near the head of the bed. We keep off season clothes in space bags in this location.

The boots got caught in the uprights and no longer reside in the displayed location. The ram cover is a donation from Ozz and may or may not really be necessary.

We use the space bags to protect our clothing in case of a hydraulic fluid leak.
