Is there any info about or reviews of organized RV tours and companies like Yankee RV tours?

My first trip to Alaska, I looked into it. Just search for rv tours. I (being a cheap old man) didn't want to pay $1800 or so for a couple of weeks. So I checked out the tour stops, etc and just stayed at the same places. Didn't have to plan out miles that way.

First and foremost, a trip to Alaska is a great adventure. If you are interested in touring Alaska with a group, you can save a lot of money by planning your own route and then getting some friends to go along. You will be traveling a lot of miles. I advise taking your time. We spent 95 days in 2014. Using info from MOC members, Alaska seminars at the National rally and, of course, The Milepost we plotted our course. I dare say we saw much more than if we had taken a tour. However, there are lots of tours available. Just Google Alaska RV Tours. Enjoy the planning process. We are in the process of planning our 2022 excursion. We did such a good job the first time, there won’t be a lot of changes other than more boondocking.

After seeing another member mention Fantasy RV Tours on here I looked them up. After seeing the prices I figured I'd just continue to do my own bookings. I haven't looked in to any other RV tour companies. I'm guessing they'd be similarly priced for comparable
trips.

Did you make it to Kennicot mine? I always have wondered if it would have been worth it? Always was raining when I drove by that area, so never went.

Yes, it was not on our original plan, but Kennicott was incredible.

I highly recommend Homer! The fresh seafood on the spit AMAZING! I could go on and on and on, about our experience there........Moose, eagles, whales, seals, etc. Some of the most spectacular sunsets my eyes had the absolute pleasure to view!
I really want to see the Kennicott mine area, it is on my "must do" list! How is the road into the area?

The road to McCarthy is gravel and bumpy. You have your choice of walking or taking a shuttle into the mine area.

Welcome to MOC - I've chatted with another member that has taken several tours. If your new to fifth wheel camping, it might be a good way to get experience without being on your own. They also mentioned they've picked up friends from the experiences, as we have by going to One National Rally.

It has been over 30 years since I went in there, but that area is amazing. Back then the road was ok, but I was just in a pickup with a cab over. The bridge over the river at Chitna (converted railroad bridge) was exciting. Just wide enough for a pickup; if you opened your door nothing to see but a long drop to the river, and no rails at all.

Worth the trip, one of the most beautiful areas I have seen.

I have always been reluctant to pay for something that I am capable of doing myself. I live for planning our trips! Being retired, I usually have the time to spend planning LOTS of trips. More than we will ever take. Flying, driving, cruising, rving. All of them. Look at brochures and see where you want to go. I believe if you look at the forums available here you will find lots of good advice tempered with personal experience.
