New gizmo

Many of you may already have a Kindle or Nook or some other brand of electronic reader. I have been slow to join the crowd. Dianna bought me a new Nook Simple Touch as an early Christmas gift. I am exceedingly pleased. I have a bit of a reading problem.

I am slow, but I find that the reader speeds up my reading speed significantly. I can't explain it, but I am grateful. It is fun to read which has never been the case for me. I only read for business or schooling or required study, but never for pleasure. It has been an unexpected benefit.

Congratulations, that's great. Joyce and I are reading addicts. We seldom watch TV, but many is the night we stay up way too late reading books. Hope you can experience some of the same enjoyment!

Glad to hear you are enjoying your new reader. Like you, I have read more since I got my Kindle (over 50 books this past summer). I just replaced my kindle with a iPad2. I'm going to give the Kindle to my 12 year old granddaughter to encourage her to read more.

I have always enjoyed reading, but I too find I read even more since getting my Kindle. I have found authors I have never heard of that are really good thanks to this website http://www.ereaderiq.com/free/. If you enter your email address then they send you a listing of free books everyday, some good - some not, but you can pick and choose. Some of the ones I was going to purchase showed up free.

Not just "thinking" I am reading faster, I am actually reading faster. I am better able to scan and still grasp the material.

Have any of you ereader users found a conversion software to go from Kindle format to Nook and the reverse?

I use Calibre for our Nooks. And, to answer your question, you can convert an epub (or other format) to mobi which the Kindle can read.

We just bought the grandkids the Nook Simple Touch (no email or web which is appropriate for their ages) and used Calibre to load a couple hundred books on them. I like the software.

Thanks, Michael, that is exactly what I needed. It is very flexible. I can't believe it a free app.

Not to hijack this posting....but maybe this goes along with OP.......As part of her retirement, I gave my wife a Kindle, in which she dearly loves. I read the above posts and went into Michaels "Calibre" posting and my head is now spinning! In my finite mind, I need some help with what would be the benefits of using Calibre for her Kindle that she doesn't already receive. I understand the conversion process, but it seems she can get most of what she wants through Amazon. Thanks, D

Well, it is free software, so if you don't see the value, don't bother with it.
