Truck Trend has a write up and is on the front page. Some info but Ford hasn't reported on what HP and Tork they will use. What ever number they use will be more the GM and Dodge . And of course they haven't released the Cost. The short bed doesn't look good to me but the picture can be deceving they will also have a long bed version. Ford will have a option for a 5th wheel hitch, and it sound like a B&W system or something similar. I really hope Ford gets it right this time as for it being a new Diesel engine? They are using piezo injectors and the fuel will be delivered at up to 30,000 psi??? Good write up but a few things not mentioned, I think the Ford guys will be happy. GBY.....

Ford will continue to sell the 6.4 into and as the 2010 model until the 6.7 is ready to release in early to mid 2010. I hope it's not like the 6.0 where it will take a year or two to get those bugs out. I am going to wait and see, plus watch how they perform up here in the oilfield for the survival test!! The 6.4 has proved to be superior other than fuel consumption.

Why don't they just fix what they have??? They went from a good engine (7.3), to a new 6.0 with problems, to a new 6.4 with problems, and now another new one. My money would be on adding "with problems" to the new one.

The good ole EPA set the standards.. The 6.4L has been a good motor with few problems. A new truck is not in our future.

Rich, I second that, The 6.4 is a far superior engine to the 6 and 7.3 liter engines in that the crank specifications, block, heads, gaskets etc. far supersede the older ones, but it did get hit with the EPA standards which put that engine as a high fuel consumer. I have made changes to ours and am enjoying the overall performance and increase in miles per gallon of fuel consumed. Because of the many problems the Ford and IH had over the 6 liter, it was time to divorce and I would assume this is why Ford designed and built their own engine. Just hope Ford is sucessful with this change.

Farmboy, the 2008 Ford SuperDuty with the 6.0L went on sale very early (January?) of 2007, not the following Fall as you'd normally expect. That was to avoid confusing the trucks with engines meeting the 1/1/2007 emission standards with those built prior to that date, which were officially 2007 models, if memory serves. Thus, I suspect the 2011 models will go on sale very early in 2010. 2011's will meet the 2010 emission standards while 2010 models with engines built before 1/1/2009 will have the 6.4L diesel.
I read today GM plans to shut down Duramax plants in mid-December 2009 and will not resume production until next May. They intend to stockpile the current Duramax to carry their sales until the new engine meeting the emission standards is ready. The article did not say why they won't be ready on time with the new engine for sale.
Dodge's Cummins already met the 2010 standards in all 50 states when production started back in January 2007 so no changes are planned in that engine, at least not related to emissions. The Cummins will thus not need the urea injection and periodic urea tank refills.

With all the changes with Ford since the 6.0 thru the 6.3, I am happy to stick with the 7.3. Towing is 10.5 to 11.5 mpg and just cruising is 17 mpg, I think I will give the new engine a 1 yr trial before deciding on whether to trade. What the heck, these engines are supposed to be good for 1/2 mil miles aren't they. Oh well, Have a Good Da

deerahn .. although we have a little heavier Montana my MPG numbers are the same as your 7.3L. The 6.4L, when driven correctly, is a good motor and does well on MPG. However..If I had a good motor no matter what the year I would stay with it.
